Let's hear it for redheads!

In light of the recent folios (and good ol' St Pat's Day) I thought I'd share a little tidbit I heard on the radio this morning. It seems that a recent scientific study testing pain thresholds with blondes, brunettes and redheads concluded that the reds can withstand as much as 25% more pain than their counterparts. That answers many questions for me...however, in the interest of science I'd like to encourage that we all run our own tests. I'm afraid my commitments may prevent me from actually conducting the test myself, but wonder if anyone would like to try it. Here's my pitch: get a few volunteers from each grouping, and apply your pain of choice. Perhaps spanking, pinching, a few strategically placed clothespins, maybe a little hot wax. Anyone willing to report their results? Anyone have experience with this or their own anecdotes? Remember, this is for science, and not for your own twisted enjoyment, you sickos ;-)...Happy St Patrick's Day!!

Me and pain don't mix, either inflicting or being inflicted. The warm gentle approach is much more my style, so will you accept a reverse mechanism to find which group takes best to the softly, softly method and derive the pain tollerance from that?

falling4fun - to put some backup into your theory and pain thresholds of redheads : ruby_red - piercings, massive back piece, and i know other piercings she's had done (know her through other work) - and she's a bit of a gun that chick. will try anything once, and then maybe again if its any good.

blondes are wimps, but brunettes, well we hide the pain (blissful or otherwise) behind our smiles...

I WAS planning spending the rest of the day snapping myself with the elastic in my underwear - but your idea is good too

I think that it's a very thin line between pain and pleasure, particularly at it's extreme. Consider when you first put you hand under really hot or cold water, it's initially difficult to tell the difference. And looking at some of the expressions on the BA site tends to bear this out...so YOU GO, go for the reverse mechanism, Belgareth! Maybe like how much pleasure they can withstand? Any correlation between hair color and time to orgasm? Or length of orgasm? Or frequency, or ? Remember it's all in the name of science....

Thanks, Precious, for your scientific contribution. Ruby_red is quite the, ahem, gun, yow. Now, about your other findings...blondes, etc. These brunettes, and I'm trying to stick to scientific methods - how do we KNOW what's behind their smiles? And where, exactly can we find these specimens? Not to date myself (now there's a website name, idatemyself.com - maybe an alternative name for the masturbation website?!) but to site Gilbert Morris playing the evangelical preacher on Saturday Night Live responding to the Stones' song "Some Girls" - "I am deeply offended by this song,...but, uh, I do want to know...where ARE these girls?"

Now this is interesting.  I get absolutely no pleasure from pain, and absolutely no pain from pleasure.  So for me it's not a thin line, but a chasm.  Even though my pain threshhold is fairly high (or maybe because it is?).  Yet literature and forums are full of evidence that for some people the opposite is true.  But how odd that nature would make people different in such a fundamental respect.  In most other ways human beings, and their response to physical stimuli, are very consistent.  Why should we be so different when it comes to pleasure and pain?

My pain threshold varies depending on state of mind, physical wellbeing etc.

centrevom, interesting point to raise as I definately am one of those you refer to that gets pleasure from certain types of pain, and I find pain to enhance pleasure.  It is interesting how some people are the opposite though, and I've often wondered, are you adverse to inflicting a bit of pain on another for their pleasure, if not, do you find it hard knowing what level to go to because you don't really want to hurt them?

Re: Let's hear it for redheads!

I read an article about this redhead/pain threshold research in the news paper a few months ago ... and I consequently felt a little bit tougher n stronger and cooler wink

hhhmmm but the thing is that pain threshold refers to the least amount of pain a person can recognise (ie.how much presure can be applied to a point before it registers as pain) as opposed to pain tolerance which refers to the most amount of pain a person can/will tolerate.

So I guess that having a high tolerance to pain might give me the right to feel tough and strong because that is something which an individual has some form of control over (mind over matter) .. but having a high pain threshold is just how our body is wired.

If it really is true that we have higher pain thresholds then I wonder WHY we evolved like that and I also wonder if someone has a high pain threshold they will also be more likely a high pain tolerence.

Oh and I'd like to point out that it was only the female red headed demographic that had higher pain thresholds n not our red headed brothers.

No, I recoil instinctively from inflicting pain for another's pleasure.  Fortunately for me, I've never been asked to do that.  If I was asked, I'd probably try to oblige, but I'd cop out so quickly that I'd fail to deliver the desired level of pain.  For me it would simply not be a sexual situation.

The funny thing about this is that the broadcast I was listening to was using this study as data that redheads are indeed more "fiery", not sure about that, but they can apparently can handle more pain.

Seems like three different questions on the table.

1. Are redheads able to withstand more pain? (Apparently so)

2. Is there a connection to redheads in general liking to receive pain during sex? (maybe, maybe not)

3. Is there some connection between the way some people are wired (i.e. genetic predisposition) that creates a pain/pleasure connection? Or is it learned (some connection early on with sex and pain)?

I for one, don't really get off on receiving pain and I've only dabbled in giving it (my partner says that she gets aroused when I put my hands around her throat and choke her, which I for one find incredibly erotic but also a little scary. I'm reluctant to play along cuz I don't want to REALLY hurt her, that's not sexy to me.)

Anyone else?

Re: Let's hear it for redheads!

I'll weigh in here with my experience..

I've had relationships and stands (one night, one week and beyond) with a fairly good number of redheads, blondes and brunettes, and I must say that generally speaking, the Redheads were far more active, fiery and kinky in bed, I can tell you..

I know that this is gross generalisation, but it's my feeling that redheads are more feiry, more prone to throw plates at you or scream at you in the street, but also more likely (in my experience) to be better in bed, more kinky and generally a bit dangerous.

does this make sense? Of course not.

But it means I go for redheads a lot more than the other two.. Of course, I am a huge fan of Pia's work on ISM..

Has there been more kinky stuff on ISM recently?!  I must go check!  Anyone have any recommendations.

In my own personal sex life, I really only do kinky stuff.  Vanilla just doesn't excite me much.  But I tend to tone it down for ISM, because I figured most people don't want to see it.  They just want the pretty nekkid girls smiling in happy sexuality at the camera.  Which I enjoy shooting, don't get me wrong, and I can just focus on the *art* of it, and everything is perfectly satisfying.

But, asides from masturbation (and only I will know what I'm thinking to get off!), I'm not really going to share overly much of my day-t0-day sexuality on ISM, because I figure you guys would rather see my butt, not my butt getting bruised.

(Which is another reason you haven't seen many shoots from me recently -- to my delight, my butt's been bruised very frequently.  Makes me happy, but might freak out the average ISM viewer....

My experience has only been with play fighting and love bites, but there are people who are extremely turned on by being spanked and all the other nominal torments. That being the case, I think I'd really enjoy getting precise at doing them and thinking up new ones. and to contrast them with genuine  affection and soft caresses, I think that would be very erotic and heighten the responses to everything including the affection. But I think it's a bit like a hot spice, if you over use it, it'll become routine and less and less stimulating. I think you have to alternate it with abstinence and doing other things. I always thought it would be nice to be with someone petite so you could lift them right off the ground and invent a sort of slow dance where you both received a range of sensations terminating in orgasm. It it looked really stupid it would be fun wouldn't it.

Re: Let's hear it for redheads!

I should have refreshed the page before I posted. I didn't see your post Zille. A bruised butt folio would be good especially as it's about your true sexuality, it would have to be how to present in that context. because if it's not, it might encourage non-consensual violence against women. You could make the consensual part obvious in the title and the little text bit. It would certainly be challenging, but there have been other challenging folios here before so it might work.

The edit time on posts here is way too short. the last line of my last post should read

I'm not sure she would have to do that.  When I see a photo set of a girl smiling and being happy and her butt is covered in bruises and she's happy about it, I can make the connection that she recieved them willingly.  I also don't feel that seeing a girl with bruises is going to *encourage* nonconsensual violence...it doesn't sound much different than the 'video games make kids kill' argument.

Zillie, you must be jesting...of course nekky smiling girls in happy sexuality appeals to my sunnier side, but there's nothing like a walk in the dark forest on a spooky night. Your bruised ass would be something to behold, and it's only sexy if it's done consensually. Knowing that it brought you pleasure would fire my imagination, and fuel my darker side. When you're ready, I'll be there to say...gorgeous. hot. imaginative. dripping with eroticism. go girlie. there's enough vanilla, give us some bittersweet chocolate.

Hi zille,

I think theres a lot of people who like a little pain with their pleasure (theres a reason I keep my nails are so long and date girls with sharp teeth!) - I see no reason why shots with one of the other lovely ISM girls spanking you wouldnt be just as artistic and for you such a personal expression it should be called art anyway.

If girls just do vanilla smiley shoots in their bedrooms nekkid its all well and good but here you can be yourself and experiment a little of all places - plus I think you would fill a gap in our folios with your fetish based shoots and I think theres a lot of people who would agree its a turn on - or at the least be facinating to them and maybe help them broadern their horizons a little when it comes to sex and sexuality?

Anyone want to vote? zille fetish folio? all in favour say Ai!

Why is it that so many women seem to have a strong affinity to cats? I don't mean just that they like to have them as pets, etc. but I mean like some kind of psychic connection...I love cats as pets and all, they can be quite entertaining...but I haven't met many men that dress up as cats for Halloween, there isn't a super hero named Cat Man, etc. I mean there's the pussy thing and all (why IS it called a pussy)...and it's not that cats are too feminine (stray male cats get more 'tang than astronauts) but what gives? This also reminds that of a girlfriend in the past that also had an eye for the females...when she'd spot a particularly sexy wench she's whisper meoooow in my ear to let me know to be on the look out...damn I miss her....
