Unbutton Those Trousers...

Okay - by Overwhelming Demand (ie: maxi and blissed), here is the Food Meme I created the other night, when hankering for most of the things I can no longer eat.  It starts off with the original 20 questions, but I've added some more ISM/Nudie Girlie related ones at the end.  It's all about being topical, kids.  So, if you have a moment to spare (um..it's kinda long, sorry), I present you with The Food Meme - and my responses, too, because I'm a tad listless today *S*:

1. If there was only one condiment on this earth that you could take to heaven with you, what would it be?
Soy sauce. I'm tragically addicted to the stuff.
2. When you're sitting home on a Saturday night, feeling depressed in your fat clothes, and no-one's there to judge you, what do you like to scarf?
Baked potato with tahbouli, corn, garlic butter, cous cous, olives, sour cream and cheese. Dear God...
3. Your favourite food item?
Olives. Without a doubt.  Kalamata are the best.
4. It's a hot day, and you could drink _____ by the gallon.
Bundeberg ginger beer!  (And you all thought I was going to answer 'semen'...tsk, tsk)
5. Milk chocolate or white?
Ha! That's a trick question! I don't eat chocolate, although occasionally I'll have some dark chocolate, the good stuff. And if you answer 'white', we can no longer be friends.
6. Something you like to eat that no-one else seems to.
Junket...or tapioca. Sardines on toast, with lots of vinegar. Blame my Nanna.
7. Similarly, what's the weirdest food or food combination that you love?
Avocado and Vegemite on toast (insanely good!), but cheese and apple together comes a close second.
8. When (if) you go out drinking, what's your Summer drink of choice, and your Winter drink of choice?
Summer is gin and tonics, extra lemon. But you all knew that. Occasionally, a good beer. Winter...hmm. Frangelico with fresh lime on ice, or scotch and coke. Sangria.
9. Do you like your food spicy?
No, I'm a puss. But I'm getting better. I do rather enjoy a slightly spicy seafood laksa.
10. It's your birthday, woo, and you get to go to your favourite cultural restaurant. What is it, and what do you get?
Indian, and I get all their vegetarian dishes (because those guys sure know how to make vegetarian food). Makhani, mutter paneer, aloo palak, pappadums, riata, garlic or potato-stuffed nann... *drools*.
11. One food you wouldn't touch if you were dying.
White chocolate. Black pudding. And risotto.
12. Comfort food?
Chow mein, Nanna-style.
13. If you were travelling through exotic countries, would you try everything on offer, or stick to what you know (ie: McDonalds)?
I'd try everything - except maybe fried scorpion, or monkey brains.
14. Favourite fishy seafood item?
Scallops, John Dory. Actually, I love all seafood - fresh sushi/sashimi, oysters (plain or topped with ginger, soy and lime), smoked salmon pizza with cream cheese and capers, etc, etc...mmm. Fishy fish.
15. It's freezing cold, you're feeling poorly, and you're hankering for some soup. What be it?
Minestrone, lots of vegetables, and noodles. With bread and butter. Argh!
16. You like dessert?
Not usually, but one day I'll try cherry pie, and I really love citrus flavours, like lemon or lime tart.
17. Hot drink?
Earl Grey tea: super strong, hot and sweet., or chai.
18. You're on death row, and you get to choose your last meal. You can have anything you want...so?
Fresh range of sushi, jar of kalamata olives, marscapone figs, won ton soup, brie, and fresh hot bread with butter. I like to mix it up.
19. Milkshakes or smoothies?
Smoothies! Banana, mango, honey and yoghurt!
20. Your perfect breakfast?
Sauteed mushrooms with tarragon and tokay, on thick slice of sourdough toast. Fresh juice (pineapple, apple, watermelon, ginger and grapefruit, lots of ice).
21.  Which food item/s, if any, act as your personal aphrodesiac?
22.  Oddest foodstuff you've ever included in an act of intimacy?
23.  If you can think of any, which is your favourite ISM shoot where one of the artists incorporated a condiment/fruit/food into the folio?
24.  Is there any dining experience/meal you'd take over sex, in a heartbeat?
25.  And finally, complete this sentence:  "I prefer my ISM artist smothered in ____".

Hmmm.  It would be good if Head would give us his answers, too, but I'm guessing they'd all be 'cheese'...

Re: Unbutton Those Trousers...

1. If there was only one condiment on this earth that you could take to heaven with you, what would it be?
Catsup. Boring, but one has to have it.

2. When you're sitting home on a Saturday night, feeling depressed in your fat clothes, and no-one's there to judge you, what do you like to scarf?
A bottle of Champagne (the whole thing, duh) and a bag of Smartfood. Or plain Lay's.

3. Your favourite food item?
Ripe tomatoes.

4. It's a hot day, and you could drink _____ by the gallon.
Tanqueray and tonic.

5. Milk chocolate or white?
DOES NOT COMPUTE. I think you mean "dark chocolate or death".

6. Something you like to eat that no-one else seems to.
I don't think I like anything truly strange. That said, see question 7.

7. Similarly, what's the weirdest food or food combination that you love?
Okay, this is probably gross and totally declasse, but I love chocolate frosting on Saltines.

8. When (if) you go out drinking, what's your Summer drink of choice, and your Winter drink of choice?
Bombay Sapphire martini with lots of olives. All seasons, any time.

9. Do you like your food spicy?
Bring on the fire extinguishers.

10. It's your birthday, woo, and you get to go to your favourite cultural restaurant. What is it, and what do you get?
I'd go to the House of Nanking in San Fransico. I'd get whatever the owner of the restaurant brought me, but I'd hope I'd get the thing with the yams in it and/or the salt and pepper pork.

11. One food you wouldn't touch if you were dying.
I went to lunch with a beau once and he ordered a tuna sandwich and I gave him a look that said "If you eat that I will never kiss you again as long as I live." He ordered the turkey.

12. Comfort food?
Macaroni and cheese.

13. If you were travelling through exotic countries, would you try everything on offer, or stick to what you know (ie: McDonalds)?
I'll try anything that isn't moving.

14. Favourite fishy seafood item?
That's tough. I loooove oysters, but the grilled octopus salad at Rose Pistola in San Francisco makes me weak in the knees.

15. It's freezing cold, you're feeling poorly, and you're hankering for some soup. What be it?
Campbell's Chicken Noodle soup. Not that I would ever, ever turn down homemade, of course.

16. You like dessert?
Um, have y'all SEEN my hips? Yes. I like dessert. I'll usually choose something fruity and seasonal over chocolate. Not that I don't like chocolate.

17. Hot drink?
Tea, Earl Grey, hot. Or coffee with real cream.

18. You're on death row, and you get to choose your last meal. You can have anything you want...so?
My mom's chicken and dumplings.

19. Milkshakes or smoothies?
Milkshakes. Vanilla with Bailey's.

20. Your perfect breakfast?
Mimosas, Swedish cardamom bread and scrambled eggs with cream cheese and mushrooms.

21. Which food item/s, if any, act as your personal aphrodesiac?
It's corny, but one of my top five kisses happened during a feast of oysters.

22. Oddest foodstuff you've ever included in an act of intimacy?
Once, a boyfriend, um, amused me while I was eating toast. Nothing odd was actually done with the toast (ack, can you imagine getting the crumbs...oh, never mind.), but it was a slightly odd set of circumstances.

23. If you can think of any, which is your favourite ISM shoot where one of the artists incorporated a condiment/fruit/food into the folio?
I'm too new to think of any.

24. Is there any dining experience/meal you'd take over sex, in a heartbeat?
Oh, probably, but I've still never been to Chez Panisse, so I can't give an informed answer.

25. And finally, complete this sentence: "I prefer my ISM artist smothered in ____".
Melted Plugra. of course, that would be a big ole mess.

Re: Unbutton Those Trousers...

i did this once already but for some reason it didn't post.  i'm not much of a survey girl, but it was food.  i did it for food.  i love you, food.

1. If there was only one condiment on this earth that you could take to heaven with you, what would it be?
ketchup.  HEINZ.  my body requires it for a healthy hormonal balance.

2. When you're sitting home on a Saturday night, feeling depressed in your fat clothes, and no-one's there to judge you, what do you like to scarf?
thai chili potato chips (thank you england), ben and jerry's minter wonderland, which i have a hard time finding, and about which i had a dream where i was searching through freezers for it and never finding it, and which i just found in my local shop and rejoiced over!

3. Your favourite food item?
christ.  that's an insane question.  i guess if i say bread it doesn't really require me to narrow down a specific kind, so i'll pick that.  but then what's the point of having bread if there's no cheese...

4. It's a hot day, and you could drink _____ by the gallon.
semen.

5. Milk chocolate or white?
milk.  but dark is yet better.  dark chocolate with mint creme.

6. Something you like to eat that no-one else seems to.
cream of wheat with brown sugar on top.  i haven't eaten it in years, but i don't know anyone who likes cream of wheat.

7. Similarly, what's the weirdest food or food combination that you love?
ice cream on toast, ketchup on macaroni and cheese.

8. When (if) you go out drinking, what's your Summer drink of choice, and your Winter drink of choice?
margaritas. plain on the rocks in the winter, blended mango (with real fruit) in the summer.

9. Do you like your food spicy?
fuck yeah.  i didn't until i moved to southern california and met mexican and thai food.  now i dig it.  spicy southern american food needs more attention.

10. It's your birthday, woo, and you get to go to your favourite cultural restaurant. What is it, and what do you get?
thai chili at tustin and taft in orange, ca.  pad thai, sweet and sour chicken, and veggie red curry.  and thai iced tea.

11. One food you wouldn't touch if you were dying.
mayo.

12. Comfort food?
kraft macaroni and cheese (blue box), sweet potato stew.

13. If you were travelling through exotic countries, would you try everything on offer, or stick to what you know (ie: McDonalds)?
try it.  unless it looks like it will suck.

14. Favourite fishy seafood item?
no me gusta.

15. It's freezing cold, you're feeling poorly, and you're hankering for some soup. What be it?
broccoli and cheddar, thick and with some big pieces of broccoli, and crusty bread.

16. You like dessert?
every time.  and it needs to be immediately after the meal.  sometimes i go out specifically for dessert.

17. Hot drink?
earl grey, easy sugar, with milk.  and a good mocha where i can find one.  they're hard to come by.

18. You're on death row, and you get to choose your last meal. You can have anything you want...so?
waffles. no, corndogs.  wait, no, waffles.  waffles and corn dogs.  and thai pumpkin curry from that thai place on valencia in san francisco (that narrows it down...)

19. Milkshakes or smoothies?
smoothies.

20. Your perfect breakfast?
shared with several other people: blueberry pancakes, belgian waffles with strawberries and syrup, ham, cheese, and avocado omlette, red breakfast potatoes, soyrizo and eggs, tortillas, and mimosas.

21. Which food item/s, if any, act as your personal aphrodesiac?
anything with a creamy sauce.  i like the sauce.

22. Oddest foodstuff you've ever included in an act of intimacy?
frozen peas of the bird's eye variety

23. If you can think of any, which is your favourite ISM shoot where one of the artists incorporated a condiment/fruit/food into the folio?
ripen.  i think that's what it was called.

24. Is there any dining experience/meal you'd take over sex, in a heartbeat?
really good italian food.  i mean really good.  i want to go on an eating tour of italy.  sex usually follows a really good italian meal, though, so i'd get both anyway.  you can't make me pick.

25. And finally, complete this sentence: "I prefer my ISM artist smothered in ____".
herb garlic tofutti cream cheese.

Re: Unbutton Those Trousers...

1. If there was only one condiment on this earth that you could take to heaven with you, what would it be?
Soy sauce!! it starts innocently enough, with just a few drops, then that isn't enough so you put more on. I just hope it doesn't lead me on to anything harder smile I'm definitely not getting in to curry which is a slippery slope into culinary oblivion. JUST SAY NO!! smile. Actually though,  about soy sauce, I think you could put it on cardboard and it would taste nice.
2. When you're sitting home on a Saturday night, feeling depressed in your fat clothes, and no-one's there to judge you, what do you like to scarf?
pistachio's, pecans, apple and cheese actually I don't mind being judged on that, probably a bit too much cheese. I always eat between meals  otherwise I get really thin.
3. Your favourite food item?
CHEESE!! at the the moment. but it changes. I used to be porridge. then bananas
I just seem to find a food I like and because I'm buying I go  a bit mad with it.
4. It's a hot day, and you could drink _____ by the gallon.
Only because I can't get hold of semen by the gallon, I have to make do with something that looks just a little bit similar, skimmed milk.
5. Milk chocolate or white?
I refer the honourable members to the answer I gave some moments ago.
This was the answer when this very question came up in the UK parliament.
On the question of chocolate, What you have to remember is that taken in the round
what colour is chocolate. and if it's white that's never right. There has to be one rubbish answer in here, I'm not a genius!
6. Something you like to eat that no-one else seems to.
When I was a child I  tasted a few types of dog food and dog biscuits and some of them aren't bad at all, especially Good boy choccy drops.
7. Similarly, what's the weirdest food or food combination that you love?
Cold chickpeas, rice and oranges or orange juice. It's lovely in the summer.
8. When (if) you go out drinking, what's your Summer drink of choice, and your Winter drink of choice?
If, is the big word there. I never go out drinking because every informal setting is filled with cigarette smoke, and I come home smelling like an ashtray and degrade my lungs with another tiny bit of  emphysema or irreversible damage. but on the rare occasions I do, and because I don't take alcohol, I get plied with enough pineapple juice to fill a 2 litre bottle,  I think milk or water is what I'd like to drink in a social setting, but only because I'm thirsty. In the winter, make that hot milk.
We're supposed to have a universal smoking ban here in July 2007. YIPEE!! That means you've got to put up with my incessant presence here for another 16 months smile
9. Do you like your food spicy?
I refer the honourable members to the reply I gave some moments ago. In the UK parliament when they want to discuss something privately they don't say "can we request that members of the public leave the chamber" Someone has to stand up and shout "I SPY STRANGERS!!!", the public leaves and then they all put on top hats or something. Their mad!
10. It's your birthday, woo, and you get to go to your favourite cultural restaurant. What is it, and what do you get?
Veggie health food place and what ever I fancy on the menu that I haven't eaten before or looks like I couldn't make myself.
11. One food you wouldn't touch if you were dying.
Anything that says on the packet "Made from reconstituted chicken pieces. Product of more than one country" That has got to be meagre stringy chicken clinging to bones piled high in a skip in Thailand or China that are circled by flies. It's all pummelled to a mush, the bones are strained off and the rest injected into fatty pies. Honestly, if you like them, why don't you just cut out the middle man and go and eat out of a skip yourself smile
12. Comfort food?
Cheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeese
13. If you were travelling through exotic countries, would you try everything on offer, or stick to what you know (ie: McDonalds)?
Stick with what I know so I don't get ill, but take a note of what I like the look of and try it when I get back home.
14. Favourite fishy seafood item?
Salmon, Salmon, Salmon, and Salmon. I'm supposed to be a veggie but unfortunately Salmons the best way to get Omega 3 fats.
15. It's freezing cold, you're feeling poorly, and you're hankering for some soup. What be it?
bread and soup or porridge with banana.
16. You like dessert?
fruit,  Creme Fraiche and nuts
17. Hot drink?
Water or milk. I used to drink tea. Then I cut out the sugar, then the milk and then the tea. I'm serious. When people ask if I want a cup of tea and I ask for hot water they think I'm mad.
18. You're on death row, and you get to choose your last meal. You can have anything you want...so?
I quite honestly don't think I'd want to eat anything. I expect I'd be crying all the time and they'd execute me early just to put me out of my misery. Don't get me wrong theres an awful lot of good things that happen in the USA, but I don't think too highly of regimes that give out postumus pardons.
19. Milkshakes or smoothies?
I don't have either, that's quite boring, I think I'm going to have to try some.
20. Your perfect breakfast?
Is what I have for breakfast. 2 squeezed organic oranges, cod liver oil. and a boiled egg.
21.  Which food item/s, if any, act as your personal aphrodesiac?
Papaya, live yogurt and pecan nuts. Just puts me in a good mood.
22.  Oddest foodstuff you've ever included in an act of intimacy?
It was intimate but not covertly sexual, but foamy cream from an aerosol, we gave each other cream moustaches,  eyebrows and beards.
23.  If you can think of any, which is your favourite ISM shoot where one of the artists incorporated a condiment/fruit/food into the folio?
No but I know theres got to be some
24.  Is there any dining experience/meal you'd take over sex, in a heartbeat?
I don't think so.
25.  And finally, complete this sentence:  "I prefer maxi and cle, strawberry, liandra, alisha, kitty_kat, secret, india, joan, lylac, and Aurorya (you don't want 13 it's an unlucky number) all standing in a big barrel smothered in, and treading grapes, with me in the middle". If I have an Australian holiday, I think I'll ring Head and see if he can organise it. I think it would definitely be a very rewarding experience.............for me smile

When I was a child I  tasted a few types of dog food and dog biscuits and some of them aren't bad at all, especially Good boy choccy drops.

I was with you until we reached the Good Boy choccy drops...although I must admit, as a kid, I was tempted.  My nanna had a poodle, and that dog ate better than most humans.

I've never had borscht, but always wanted to - it's a European beetroot soup, yes?  I was talking to a friend about Gazpacho soup last night...that stuff is damned fine, too.

Earl Grey...there's just something about it.  And I love ALL my teas very strong, so usually make a big, strong pot of it, or throw 2 teabags in a cup.  And chai...I remember my first chai (and soy milk with honey) experience, and it knocked me flat.  Both these drinks are so comforting, too.

Try your olives w/ cracked sea salt!  Oh my buddha!!! It's fucking delicious!

Evil because I eat meat, or because that particular dish sits well within your belly?  The chefs change the menu quite often, but I ate there so much when I worked in that area they'll throw it together for me if I ask. A nice bottle of red w/ fried calamari starts the dinner off just right.  That place is the best!  Better than most of the nicer places I eat while I'm in midtown Atlanta.  When I'm at that home I eat there every Friday or Saturday night that I can.  Here's a link, check out the menu if you get a chance.  http://www.sobys.com/

I don't know if Republic is an amazingly popular brand, but I sure as hell love it!  Plus they give back, makes them extra special!

Oh shit... I bought some Coopers Brewery - Best Extra Stout for the first time tonight and that stuff is damn good!!!  Australia has some good beer!

i think i am coming on to you, catt.  i guess that was pretty thinly veiled.  food is such a big old flirt.  especially for women.  i had a professor once who had written a book about women and fetish with a big chapter on women and food, and how specific it is when women talk about food.  sort of the same way they talk about sex.  about a year ago i was sharing a bit of a mutual crush on this girl and she used to come to my place and make me dinner.  these really great elaborate meals.  she mysteriously bailed one day, but i think the sexual tension created by her cooking for me and trying to pretend it wasn't that sexy was lovely.  maybe a little much for her though.  mmmmmm ladyfood.....

Am having quite a chuckle over this, because just tonight I was getting saucy over the phone with my boy when somehow - as seems to happen often - conversation turned to food (where we would eat on our honeymoon, etc), and yet the tone of our voices remained the same (ie: kinda raunchy).  I love being with someone for whom cuisine is also a passion of sorts - even though it means you need to keep extra active to stop from becoming a couchblob.

"she mysteriously bailed one day, but i think the sexual tension created by her cooking for me and trying to pretend it wasn't that sexy was lovely."

I think it's lovely too, and utterly <strike>fattening</strike> flattering.  Preparing food for someone you dig combines art, science, passion and flair, and it's a big deal for me, too.
