Actually, on second thoughts, a pool folio with a good small camera would have an intimacy and directness which for all their beauty these photos haven't got.

Is going to be fairly complex and/or expensive for an ISM model to duplicate Howard.  Most of his work features a black-lined pool.  Also the surface is black.  This means he shoots at night with underwater lighting.  James Cameron bought tons of little black styrofoam balls to float on top of his shoot tank for The Abyss.  Shooting UW is not easy.  It takes far more than just a watertight housing.  It also takes a lot of planning.

However,  most dive shops have UW digitals for rent.  A promise of nudes or modeling store gear might even get the cam for free.  It will take some experimenting to see what works and what doesn't.  Then,  knowing the rules for a marine enviroment, do a creative shoot.

A hired UW digital camera, a private white tiled outdoor pool. The mid-day autumn or spring sun shines into the pool. Take a full length mirror in to the pool to reflect the light. Then take a squeezy bottle filled with purple liquid and squirt that and see what patterns and small clouds you can make with it. They might look great with the sun shining through them. Could shoot in to the sun with the person blocking the direct sun and the rays visably eminating all around her through the purple cloud. That all sounds really easy to say smile but with all that going on with the sunlight, the clouds and the bubbles you'd be quite unlucky to not get a few flooky shots that are really nice.

When I was young, the girl down at the end of the block had a pool.  At that time there was a chemical tablet you could put into your pool.  If anyone peed in the pool it would turn purple on contact with the water.

We all had a disgusting time trying to swim AROUND the purple clouds until they dispersed.

After about a month,  the pool was starting to look a little brackish.  I wonder why they don't make that stuff anymore.

Sorry.   your comment brought back that memory.

I would hope that anyone attempting underwater photography has the ability to use a camera in something other than automatic mode. A lot of the AF and AE mechanisms aren't calibrated for use underwater and I can't remember seeing a symbol on any of my cameras that looks like a underwater setting!

Sorry I've been quiet but I've temporarily lost my voice and for some reason my brain decided that "no speech" = "no type in forum". Doh!

Hi all!
Thanks for your compliemnts on my folio, I hope you like the new one when its up!

I think all this underwater talk is a challenge... I am looking into cases for my camera (although how a plastic case can work with a optical zoon im not sure....)

I dont have access to a pool (england plus pool in garden = ice sckating rink) but might be able to do something in-between, prehaps my friends large corner bath which is very deep and doing a mix of underwater and above shots (maybe some half way too) would be an interesting challenge...

Ive just finished the dark moody set for ISM as promised and its winging its way to Austrailia as we speak. Now Ive done motorbikes and a dark one, water might be a good next starting point. If I cant get an underwater folio I can at least get a water one, I can setup my camera how I like with regards to white balance, focus type, shutter speed etc and I know it can capture raindrops and flowing water well, maybe me with a hose in the garden once the sun comes back lol!

Ive just had a thought (yep a whole one!)

noone has gone through my folio to let me know which pics they think work best/worst which angles are the most interesting etc,

so if you want an excuse to look through my folio again please do so, I dont want to repeat mistkes/not reuse good aspects in my upcoming folios smile

Thanks in advance if anyone does, and no worries if you all got better things to do than look at me, haha!

I don't think anyone is going to find pics of you they didn't like.  Even Santa Clause is packing extra stuff for Alisha for this Christmas.

One of my fav pics of you is in the samples in your site.  Taken in the barn with a pitchfork in the background.  The hand pose is outstanding and you have your body in a classic "S" curve.  The whole composition is a gallery show-stopper.  It is graceful and comfortable.

I love the back shots  (maybe because we see so few of them) and a favorite pose I use with my own models is the model walking away from the camera,  or posing against a counter or wall in a full length back shot.  It shows off the entire figure,  heels to hair, and has a certain grace to it.  For self-portraits,  it would require some testing with the self-timer on the cam.

Ooh you don't have to be brave to be honest here:)
Your really attractive.  So it's really  just a question of which shots work better than others.
You've got a really cute face and any shot that includes your face works better than one that doesn't, apart from the one below, that's quite a nice angle of your breasts. The ones that work least well are the waist down with your legs apart on the bike. In those shots you simply look fit rather than erotic. I think in say in 081, if you were hitching up a short skirt that would be sexy (because you've got nice soft thighs.) that would make those shots sexual rather than just nude. (Though that might be just a thought thats peculiar to me.) Actually Though, 100 works well, because you have a lovely vagina and all the surrounding shapes are nice too. (I think we've said here before that a vagina is usually something beautiful.) Anyway thats my critique smile It'd be nice to get a few other peoples views though, because you've got it all there, it's just, what is the best way of showing it all off.

Anyway, thanks for asking smile

Re: Im new here can you show me around? ;)

Here is my idea- (I am all about making do, scrounging materials- what I call, perhaps from years of living there-  the 3rd-World solutions)

Instead of springing for a proper sub-aqua camera, or even trying to find a case for a terrestrial one- what about putting an aquarium - say 5 or 10 gal. size or any water-tight clear glass or plastic container with minimal distortion (scrounged from a friend of course), in the tub with you, and putting the camera in it- so it is looking through an underwater window.  Like a glass-bottom boat, or a look-box such as is used from a boat to peer into the depths.    Depending on the depth of the bath and size of the aquarium, some bricks or water-filled square-sided containers in the tub first, to give a solid base not too deep.  Then, more bricks or cobblestones, wrapped in a towel inside the aq. to avoid scratching or (gasp) breaking the glass, to sink the aq. as well as to give a solid but soft surface to put the camera on.  It will be a little tricky to do alone, using the timer and a dry hand or two, but patience should reward! (all of us wink )

Get to it, Alisha  I cannot wait for the results!

yikes) Now how can I turn down an invitation like that?

Looking at your portfolio again, (smiles in delight) I have to agree with blissed. The rest of you is gorgeous, but your face is the icing on the cake. Of course I'm partial to shots that include the face anyway, as it shows so much more expression. I'm also partial to shots that get a bit more explicit, but that's obviously a question of what you're comfortable with. Over all, I think your first folio was excellent, and I didn't see a single shot that I thought was bad.

I agree with SCSIgirl ( who apparently is a guy - took me a while to twig to that! ) and blissed  (jury still out on that one, I must have missed some posts or failed to do enough research, but then, a little mystery can be fun wink, and jdudley76  in that all your shots are stunning - I really hate to risk excessive flattery, but I also cannot lie...

On the hot tip from SCSIgirl's post,  I checked out your site (again) to look for the barn-shot mentioned in a previous post.  Sadly, I did not find that specific shot, but many others struck me- such a wide variety!

Specifically, the ones that MOST impressed me, and that I took the liberty of saving to desktop- which gave me at least a number that may help you to know which I am talking about, (though there seem s to be some duplication of #’s on different folios):

#2, (simonscans) with wet or slicked down hair (not usually to my taste but incredible in this montage) and a white tank-top on white sheets…
#6 (Malcolm Mellon) just your body, with subtle shadows of the blinds- mysterious, innocent, yet unabashed- natural looking…  just the pure erotic art of feminine poetry in motion- in this case, I think the absence of your lovely face allows un-distracted appreciation of your form. ( I hope that makes sense!)
#6 (another #6 but with Ukdigitalgirls on it – and your own logo) on a furry tan spread wrestling coyly with the red thong- so different from the above, yet so winsome!
And lastly, a #9, just your face, shoulder and arms, reclining on purple velvet- Mona Lisa eclipsed…   no words -

Re: Im new here can you show me around? ;)

Hi, thanks for all your comments,

With regards to putting the camera in a tank in the water, I thought of that but it would limit me to one angle of shot as i could only get my hand to the camera from one angle, and for the ISM aesthetic I have to be holding the camera for each shot, the self timer wont be useful for a folio here. Might be good for some of my website shots (which will get a complete overhaul this summer I have seen those pics too much now!)

Thanks for all your comments on my folio and website pics, Im happy to see that some of your favourite pics are also my own.

I know what u mean about the leg shots, I was experimenting a little with angle and I wasnt sure if they as well as the others either. I tried some different leg shots in my 2nd folio (not up yet) as I was laying down and took pictures from above, i think they are far more elegant than the bike ones of the same subject. I prefer elegant ertoic art nude to full blown porn photos, unless the porn is tounge in cheek, silly outfits and giggles are another passion of mine, Yep Im an ecclectic person with my tastes lol!

ohh prehaps I could do a silly coustume shot for ISM? I havent seen any, is it allowed/appriciated? I have a wikid pink pvc nurse dress and headband i wear clubbing occationally Id love more pics in...

The Malcom pic of my body being hit by the light through a blind on my site was my idea, he was closing the blind to start the shoot and i insisted on having some with that stripey light, i love light play in photos, unfortunately i dont have a blind to do mor epics like that, we dont get enough light through my window.

The pic of me on my site on the tan throw from above is lovely, we shot a whole striptease from that angle but Im only allowed to use that one shot sad  Maybe I should try to redo it myself some day...

AHH too many ideas!

But the thought of doing a really silly naughty nurse set if Im allowed is growing on me.... Does anyone know if cute uniform shots are allowed?

Sorry mzungu can I do a water one after?

Alisha

Alisha_X,

I posted over in the folio comments area, but will extend comments here as well.

You have a nice, shapely abdomen. Which is why I like 106 and 99 as favs. That belly button zipper is just begging for a sun glint, or other hightlight to set it off.

The overcast day muted the shadows and light color somewhat, and that was nice if trying to set that visual mood. But all that metal made me desire bright reflections and glints.

But you have a great skin tone and lovely dark eyes set in a pretty face. Seeing all those features in warm sunlight might offer some striking images. The haircolor is dramatic, and would be effected nicely in sundown or early morning light.

On the facial shots: Try and compose your face in camera, then hold your head still, and shift your eyes all the way left or right. This will put more 'white' around your soulful eyes, and set a facial mood. Tap in to your imagination and let your facial expression reflect those moods. Doesn't have to be overdone. Just show what your feeling.

You have many natural features that visually striking, so just vary lighting and shadow. Try and put light on one side and let shadow fall onto the other.

Here's a quick photoshop re-work, to show how light and shadow fall can bring drama to the image.

Oh... and just to be a tad purient, and not so much the photographer --

I love your pubic bush, The hairs have nice flow and frame your vuvla nicely.

Cute uniform shots are allowed, but I think removing the uniform is compulsory smile
I have seen other folios with dressing up, but as their not classified under that they'd be hard to find. But they are there.
If you can get a stethuscope you can listen to various parts of your body, put the end in your mouth and then on your nipple. Sorry I'm getting carried away here smile I think it would be fun though.

Re: Im new here can you show me around? ;)

I would love to see you do a costume folio. It would be cool to see your concept of tongue in cheek porn. As for what I meant by more explicit shots, for me at least, it's more about getting a sense of what turns you on and gets you going, than about stereotypical cheesy porn. (I don't think that's why any of us are really here.) I think that's possible to do with a more "erotic art" feel.  I guess to me, it's about being more open with the camera about your sexuality than just straight nudity. There are several folios one this site that just seem to glow with sexuality without necessaily being hardcore. Again, this sort of thing really depends on what you are comfortable with.

So many ideas, if only I could submit some of this as coursework! Instead Im being made to research and design a typeface inspired by everyday objects and draw all the upper and lower case letters, numerals and puntuation out by hand, in 4 weeks.... :s[/QUOTE]

Miss Alisha X why not make some typeface out of your cute body! Are your boobs not every day objects? Just make sure you've got some clever rationale behind you, education establishments tend to be a little apprehensive when it comes to chicks being sexy! XOX

Hi guys,

With the costume idea I wasn't going to do hardcore, i find that a turnoff really, i wanted to do more of the messing about posing pulling cute faces, but the general consensus from members and admin seems to be the arty stuff is prefered, I have lots of ideas so it isnt a problem not doing a nurse set. I could also do one for my website if i really get the urge lol!

My third folio will be water based i think,

seth315 thanks for your comments, its great to get another persons perspective, Id love to do a warm sunlight folio but Im afriad this is england where the sun is currently grey :s but obviously in summer I will be outside sunbathing with my trusty camera.

maxi thats a great idea, but i think it might give the old tutor a heart attack if he sees that rather than something as straighgt as times new roman lol!

Ive not ctually done anything new on the typeface, been working on other projects which are more fun, maybe i shud post some of my drawings up for u guys?

Hi guys,

sorry been a while had net troubles, attached drawing as promised, be kind its only my third attempt to draw something in Illustrator, it was 'spossed to be me but turned out kinda oriental looking....

I looked into the underwater camera housing, it costs 150 pounds, donations via online methods to alisha@alishax.com or the camera goes into a sandwich bag! just kidding lol....

I might try for a water based one, like a bath or shower, with most the shots above water and get a disposable underwater camera for 15-20 pounds to get 24 underwater ones, hopefully then i could get a few proper underwater shots, id have to get the film developed though, might be fun looks i get from the local chemist after that! lol...

What do you think?

Wow.  Great drawing,  definately commercial grade.

Check a dive shop for underwater cam rentals.  Hell, if you model a wetsuit they might let you borrow it for free.
