Copyright Issues

This is really for Shannon and/or Head, but I thought I'd post it here in case anyone has opinions on whether this is a good idea or not.

I saw a photo in a recent folio that I would absolutely love to have printed, framed, and on my wall.

Has this issue come up before? I am only interested in this if the model grants permission, in addition to obtaining permission from ISM (who is, I assume, the legal copyright holder).

I'm not opposed to paying a reasonable license, although in that case I would hope for a larger or uncompressed source image.

That's actually a very good question; I'm not entirely sure. When I open a folio, I usually click the first couple images that get my attention, then step through the progression. When I loaded this gallery, I didn't notice it at first. When I "next'd" to it though, I just paused.

Analyzing it, I like how her eye is nearly centered in the photo, and the iris detail is interesting. I love how her eyebrow is a bit unkempt, and what look like mascara marks below her lower eyelash.

Actually, the above is kinda BS, because I just wrote that while flipping back and forth between this and the picture. It's more like ... it's more an idea. Fine detail, maybe. That as you get closer to something, instead of the small thing just getting larger, you realize the small thing is made of more smaller things. Quite like your signature, come to think of it, but I wish I could articulate what I mean better.

Also, after I paused, I got up to refill my water bottle, and when I came back and saw the picture on the screen ... I just thought it would be nice to have around. Also, I'm preparing to move into my own space after living with my partner in a long-term relationship, and I'm looking forward to having things interesting to me on the walls. *S*

It's from Isidore's folio, 'mask' - which is an old one, but fairly unique, humourous and powerful.  I just love this image.

I was not at all prepared for that folio. I hadn't seen it, thank you very much for pointing it out to me.

I'd wanted to post Please, please, please, please!, but I didn't want to seem over-eager.

What an image. I feel a little silly, because I always get the "wrong" ideas from art (I know, interpretation can't be wrong, but I see the look in people's faces and I feel an ass)  ... that picture just feels so Through the Looking Glass to me. Pure fantasy.

With both images, I feel like I fell into them immediately - captured, enraptured. Language seems to fail at this.

You said it yourself, there's no 'incorrect' approach to art.  Although it can be difficult sometimes to verbalise it without sounding the wanker (trust me, spend minimal time in a gallery to encounter this type *S*).  But you don't even have to say anything.  Imagination and thought are often intangible when confronted with something that moves or inspires you.

That image is probably the most 'palatable' of her set - but I love the set as a whole, because (to me) it is totally without ego, and 100% unashamed.

You'd not be taking a risk by calling me square (in fact, one of my favorite jokes is that, since my birthday is sept. 3rd (9/3 in the US), not only am I a square, I'm also a square root! oy.). That's the most challenging folio I've seen here, but I think I'll be checking it again in a couple days. I'm really glad you pointed it out to me. If I had come across it on my own, I don't think I would have thought about it enough to appreciate it as much as I do.

I'd sure be proud of that set, if I were her.

Better to be a square root than a dud one *S*.  And her folio is challenging - but it's one I keep going back to, and consider it a favourite.

It's not a breach of copyright to hang it on the wall in your house, that's personal use.  Contact us by email if you'd like a copy without the watermark.
