Re: Why edit our posts?

I am over 60.  And male.

I am also in the process of doing a folio project.  I know exactly what many of the young women are going through when they submit their folio to the ISM crew to evaluate, and then decide if it is publishable, if it meets their minimum criteria.  Or is it another one to reject.  I wonder how many rejects there are for every publishable folio.

Do you have any idea how many go through all the angst and never get on?  And for those who do - remember they are not seasoned professionals.  They are normal human beings doing something that would get them beheaded (or is it stoned to death) in Arabia, disowned, shunned, and worse in many parts of the world.  Even in Oz, a few decades back.

So celebrate that they can do this, that we - their society can accept this whilst not feeling they have somehow become diminished, not worthy of our association.  Tats are art.  Not my art.  But if they are part of my body, they are part of me as surely as a scar or birthmark would be.  A memorial to a time, an attitude, the person I was when they were done.

Oh.  And why does some sixty something guy consider doing a folio?  Well it isn't because I am hoping some horny guy or young woman is going to be thrilled.  I hope to be able to show a bit about aging with grace, accepting my imperfections enough to present them to the 'world'

I only expect the same consideration as the site insists upon.  A modicum of maturity and politeness.  Which you owe the world anyway.

Would you care to do a folio yourself?  Liandra Dahl is gathering material for a series of male folios.  If she can get anything worth publishing.  It's quite a challenge to be 'arty' as well as merely naked.  Send her a message.

Have I ever lied to you before?
