Wow Kath, that second one is amazing! The way her head is arching back creates such a cool effect, and I just love seeing pubic hair through undies like that. Very sexy and unique photos.

I think the world itself is beautified by you being in it:):) Means a lot to know you're always so excited to see what photos I've found & posted:):) I found these incredible Aneta Bartos photographs that I'm really excited to share...I think there's an amazing darkness & beauty to the aesthetic, atmosphere & sexuality of her images that I find really breathtaking & I love how her photography has this powerful, almost unsettling painting-like quality to it & I'm completely in awe at the impact her work has. If she exhibits anywhere I can travel to I'm definitely going:):)

Thanks for the pic...have been away from the forum for a while so was cool to see this on my return:) I've been collecting old 60's photography books recently & it kind of reminds me of some of the pictures in those...definitely looks kind of trippy & psychedelic:):)

Thanks Ben, I'm glad you like my new name . The vintage photography books sound cool, I love photographs from that era. It's so interesting to see what's changed over time and what's stayed the same. Are they features from particular photographers or collections?

I also find vintage porn really fascinating. This tumblr http://retrofucking.tumblr.com/ is full of magazine scans from the late sixties to early eighties, but there's something wrong with the theme so they tend to repeat unless you scroll really fast.

Really excited you love photographs from the amazing 1960's too!!! I'd do anything to travel back in time & get to live through that amazing era of social change, fascinating politics & of course, incredible style, music, fashion & photography:):) I wish i could somehow sit with you & show you all the books i bought as they're so cool & full of gorgeous photographs but i'll try to give you a little glimpse of them in message form. The ones i found the other day are about London in the 60's & some of the Photography Year Books from that era...

Oh wow Laney i LOVE the tumblrs you posted links to!!!! i love vintage porn too (i think its often so much more representative of real bodies & therefore hotter) I think we must be very similar in our taste in photos as all the ones you post always make my heart race. I wonder where your last image comes from too, we must find it...it's majorly hot!!! I love the other ones you chose too, it's fascinating how each decade seems to have its own photographic style, so the pictures i posted above are so distinctively 60's & then the 70's & 80's had their own distinctive style too & thats what the other pics you posted reminded me of, that kind of soft-focus pastel shaded dream-like David Hamilton-esque stuff, like these...

Aawwww Trevor you are too lovely! Thank you for being so supportive of me and always posting such thoughtful comments on folios and the forum. I'm not sure if I've told this story here before, but I originally chose the name Devotchka as a Clockwork Orange reference but the spelling was changed to Devochka. I found the trailer for Ninotchka on youtube - it looks very funny. She's just SO deadpan!

It would be so cool to look through those books together irl. I particularly like the photo you posted of the woman's miniskirt being accidentally lifted by her handbag. Hot!!

David Hamilton is awesome too. At the Feck office we have some Playboy magazines from the 70's, one of them has a feature on David Hamilton. Photo proof ^_^

Please do try to see the movie, Ninotchka, in its entirety. As all Garbo's previous films were quite somber and sober, this her first comedy was billed as "Garbo laughs". She only made one more film before retiring at the age of 35. I haven't seen Nonatchka in years. You've inspired me to see it again.

ISM is such an amazing place & you're one of the most amazing things about it & you'll always have a place in my heart. Glad you loved the 60's stuff i posted:) totally agree re the miniskirt picture…its so hot isn't it!!:) im a big fan of street photography & it's ability to capture these little moments of eroticism or accidental voyeurism amongst the banality of everyday existence. It reminds us that we're alive. Plus since i was really young i've thought the whole accidental upskirt thing is just soooooo hot:)

Kind of getting obsessed with vintage 60's clothes & music too lately. There's an awesome vintage shop here & today, as well as picking up some Kinks & Dusty Springfield vinyl i found, i bought this absolutely gorgeous vintage military tunic/jacket, with gold buttons everywhere & really cool insignia & stripes & patches on it. I love it so much i think i might have to live in it from now on:)

I share your appreciation for upskirt photos . They can be hard to take of yourself (unless you've got a REALLY short skirt on) but plenty of ISM contributors manage to do it. I've always liked this one by Alecia.

A while ago I did a shoot for Abby Winters (the only other website I'm on) in a dress from the late 60's. It was super fun!

Laney and Poloroid, I rather think the 60s was rather the end of harmony (at least for the foresable future; I'm not prophet). At the time, students in the USA started to rebel against the dictates and expense of fashion and bought and dressed in old clothers (Goodwill and Salvation Army stores) and let them get older, shabby and full of holes. It was a rather amusing time -- apart from the deadly earnestness and seriousness of the civil rights and anti Vietnam war movements. But then, alas, the fashion industry commercialised and capitalised on shabbiness and made it hip and cool and chic -- and in my mind glorified ugliness, cacophony and disharmony. Even couples walking down the street don't look like they belong together. Harmony is confused with conformity. Many desighners make their mark by being perceived as different when all they are doing is trying to stand out by shocking. But to me it is really a boring mess. Ah but of course there are exceptions. Your photograph from Abby Winters is so lovely. You make one sing and sigh. Abby Winters is a very nice site but I haven't joined yet. What I like about ISM is the age range of the contributors--Abby Winters seems exclusively 20s and perhaps early 30s. And ISM seems to have a much wider view of what is beautiful. Still... perhaps sometime I'll take another look at Abby Winters. Also I like this forum. Thank you all. To be continued...

Trevor i wholeheartedly concur with every word you wrote about the 60's. I especially agree with your view that it was the end of harmony. I think this goes to the heart of the sense of longing i have to have been a part of it (being a child of the 80's i sadly arrived decades too late). In much the same way as the style & culture of the 30's fascinates me too because it feels like the death throws of a decadent beautiful age before it was torn apart by war, the 60's to me represents the last burst of life from a world on the very brink of being pulled into the inexorable inertia of globalisation & the death of individuality of culture that we're seeing the culmination of now, where most places are indistinguishable from each other & even countries have become somewhat homogenised due to the globalisation of culture & trends. I hate conformity & have always enjoyed refusing to follow trends & have tried to express myself as much as i can in what i wear, which is why i enjoy shopping in vintage clothes shops. & customising a lot of the stuff i buy. I find the expression of individuality i see represented in the work of ISM contributors truly exciting.

Nostalgia is often a very fine thing in that we filter out all the negative and are left with refined good. In fact, there was a great deal that was pretty awful about the 60s for much of the world, including the USA and western Europe. What there was however was a wonderful optimism that things could be better; that we were evolving toward a better world. Many young people felt that they were going to be part of the solution. What I find so disturbing is that among those who were idealistic at the time were quite a few who were in fact just idealistic because it was hip--and they subsequently betrayed their idealism by becoming far worse than those they were so highly critical of in their parents' generation. And so the income gap has grown so great and "over the top" greed is celebrated.

Ben, your feelings are very good ones. I agree about the negatives of globalisation on culture--including music. I think it is sad that so few appreciate classical music and music that doesn't depend upon amplification. I hear the same music everywhere now, mostly American pop (mostly awful and very intrusive), even in Italy where for generations great Italian music was created--and I don't just mean classical. The regional folk music and its musical instruments were wonderful. Even those who a big supporters of Slow Food have no interest in their musical heritage. Its as great a loss as the loss of fashion.

Ah well, remember to balance the public sorrow all around us with our private joys.

Thanks for your message. I loved your description of nostalgia being a filtering out of negative memory leaving refined good in its place. I am a very nostalgic person & i like that my memories are condensed into beautiful nostalgic emotions like that, even of the saddest times, which sounds strange but perhaps is simply a way of filtering the darkness to allow me to safely approach the darkness as well as the light that makes up existence, because without one you cannot truly feel the other. I like that the nostalgia for the 60's we've been talking about is also very similar to that filtering process. The negative & frightening images of the 60's, from Vietnam to the Tate/LaBianca killings, are emblazoned on our collective cultural memory to an equal extent as the sides that entice & excite nostalgia, yet somehow it is always the positive which triumphs over the negative in a way which perhaps mirrors the sense of wonderful optimism you spoke of that the world was evolving into a better place. It is only when we wake up & reflect on how the world has ended up today that the real nightmare begins as we realise how the world in many ways has achieved nothing & all but a few of the good things that were born in the upheaval & change of that decade have been corrupted, exploited & betrayed.

I agree with your thoughts on classical music too. I find it very difficult to explain why works of such emotion & beauty have become so detached from mainstream society & has become over the last century almost entirely replaced as the way in which most people feel their emotions & experiences represented musically. No matter how much i think about it, i can't work out any explanation for this, & i'm sure there are many complicated reasons, but among them there must be a kind of failure by society to prevent classical music from being cast adrift from the people at large to the extent that now it is unfortunately seen by many as remote, unapproachable, indecipherable or of there being barriers of class, education, background there making people feel that it's not made for or meant for them. I don't know how that can be reversed. I come from a classical music background in that when i was at school i was a trumpet player & was lucky enough to be able to play in brass bands, jazz orchestras, symphony orchestras & a chamber orchestra & i have wonderful memories of the music & the people i was lucky enough to get to know & travel with as a result. Its very sad that i gradually gave up playing when i went away to university & so my experiences with classical music are nostalgic memories rather than something immediate i can use to relate to my current emotions & cannot explain properly to myself why i cannot connect emotionally with that music despite my history with it & despite the fact that it contains all human emotion within it.
