genders swapped, tables turned

Today I am really digging this gender-swapped version of Robin Thicke's catchy and creepy new song and music video, "Blurred Lines". You can watch it here. The song and the content are kind of hot, but there's something off about the whole thing - the theme of degradation, the lyrics about subverting 'good girls', and the vulnerable naked woman/strong clothed man would kind of be okay if everyone seemed into it, if it was done with even a modicum of heart, consciousness, and mutual arousal, but it all feels forced and wrong and upsetting. beyond even the typical cringy/entertained feeling of watching this theme in most all music videos ever - it's over the top cringe.

The contrast is obvious when you swap the genders and make a fine-ass video like the Mod Carousel version, here. The theme of objectification and coercion is still strong, but everyone is so switched on and down with it. I feel that even without the statement of gender reversal, these performers add a playfulness to the original concept that allows us to enjoy the objectification without getting that fluttery, sick and used feeling in our ladyparts.

As a parody, it does a great job of improving on the original even as it clarifies and points out, with authenticity and good humor, exactly what is so wrong with the original. Top job folks.

Anyway damn, how those boys can move! And the ladies can really sing. Uh not to mention, they're moving pretty good too.

Re: genders swapped, tables turned

Because I like switching, the reverse gender of the piss take version is a scenario I like for real. My libido is aroused by being desired and degraded, wether I really am or it's a fantasy. The being degraded fantasy is hot because the persons desire for your hotness  is so extreme it's all they care about. It's raw passion.

In the piss take it looks like everyone likes each other and in the original it looks like they don't, the women got paid and looked fabulous and I like the bare boobs and almost nakedness and sexual powerplay in a music video, but their wholeistic hotness was ignored and wasted. And it's that misrepresention that's  crap about most of these kinds of music videos/ ads/ porn. They'd be OK if they were part of a balance picture that reflected the  reality of diverse desires but they're not, they kind of flood the picture. I think it's that imbalance that feels degrading and cringeworthy, in an unfantasised real and unsexy way.

That nearly naked guy with the heals and dark hair? I need to know how I can get that body smile

Another thing they're doing is perpetuating the singular notion of hotness, of slim bodies and big boobs, putting yet another straw on the camels back.

And another one here, low-tech but very cute. Via scarleteen

A good quote from Robin Thicke in GQ from the scarleteen article for anyone who isn't sure why they dislike/like this song:

"We tried to do everything that was taboo. Bestiality, drug injections, and everything that is completely derogatory towards women. Because all three of us are happily married with children, we were like, 'We're the perfect guys to make fun of this." People say, ‘Hey, do you think this is degrading to women?’ I’m like, ‘Of course it is. What a pleasure it is to degrade a woman. I’ve never gotten to do that before.’ "

WTF?

Not to mention Miley Cyrus' performance to this song at the VMA's, which I think is best summed up here:

I liked Miley's performance, it was a kind of out there sexy embarrassing, over the top, just like many fantasies. Sluts not a word I use. She was ludicrous sexy and she was courageous enough to do it and get herself billions of dollars of free publicity, which was the whole point.

P.S, yeah bombing Syria and killing more people is totally gonna solve everything isn't it. I favour investing billions into projectile interception. Because unlike other forms of safely stopping people from fighting each other, like fog and sleeping gas, there's no kind of assault involved.

Agreed, Mozart is better ^_^. I think billions of dollars of free publicity was pretty much the point of her performance above everything else and she certainly got it. Everybody loves to talk about it and hate it and deconstruct it and look at her butt and blah blah blah...  even me!

Those lasers are pretty cool but what is their range? It seems like they'd have to have a much longer range to have any efficacy.

Re: genders swapped, tables turned

I want them to stop a bullet from a mile high by taking the tech in long range telescopes like Hubble, reducing it's size a little and focusing like eagle eyes  on fast or hot movement and hit it with a laser or pulse powerful enough to deflect it or vaporise it. I want sensors that can detect explosives too. But an enforceable no fire zone would hit arrows, stones, small drones.  If people build poisonous micro drones I deploy micro drones to destroy them and trace their source. Armies of poisonous flying cyber insects are totally doable and would mean an interceptor has to distinguish a cyber insect from a real one. A 3D printed cyber micro  gnat from a real one one http://www.geek.com/chips/watch-a-nanos … r-1475123/

The point is the ongoing defence research budget is spent creating the tools to stop violence, rather than maximise destruction and aggravating it. Why destroy something (Villages, towns and cities)  in the process of acquiring it. It's completely dumb, quite apart from the fact people exact vengeance in a totally personal way that no other species, like rats seem too when you kill them. (does that need stating to anyone over the age of 5 let alone generals in their 50s) Quite apart from the moral aspect of killing anyone at all or doing it happily in the name of narrow national interests like access to oil or pre negotiation positioning.

Something has to be done about someone using chemical weapons, but putting a bit of economic stimulus the way of the usual conventional weapons manufacturers isn't how to do it.

Re: genders swapped, tables turned

Blissed that's awesome as a creative high tech system of (mostly) non-violent defense. That 3D printer is really cool and so is the idea of micro gnats that trace the source of offensive micro drones to target whoever is firing them. Have you heard about the 3D printer that uses liquid metal at room temperature? I like learning about weapons and combat tactics, my boyfriend is interested in them too. Here is a link to a list of unusual weapons you might find interesting.

Re: genders swapped, tables turned

That 3D metal printer is good. Multi material 3D printers and multimaterial nano recyclers would be an awesome combination.

I'm not really into weapons at all or battle tactics. I know people who are and I like it when someone who's an aggressive pain in the ass spends every available hour of their time playing WOW or call of duty, where they're out of trouble and pretty much under voluntary house arrest smile
