I got censored by Visa!

The owner of another site I model for was told by Visa that they wouldn't process any credit card purchases for his site until the word "Lolita" was removed from the "favourite books" section of my profile. He tried to point out that I was referring to a classic book which a person can buy on Amazon.com with a Visa card, but they refused to listen.

So now he's changed it to "The book by Nabokov with a title that begins with L but which I am not allowed to speak because a large corporation with government ties says I
am not allowed to."

This is completely ridiculous, and I'm really angry about it.

That's crazy!
Thanks for reminding us though how uptight the rest of the world can be, sometimes you can forget how oppressive everything corporations like Visa can be!

Re: I got censored by Visa!

Well, it's five years and counting since the last comment, but as a Canadian I know that the law is really tough on child pornography, and anyone here who says in a profile or communication that he likes, let alone seeks, lolitas is risking having their hard drive scrupulously examined for evidence.

No wonder then that a corporation, seeking to protect themselves rather than to oppress their customers, would screen (as antiterrorist organizations do when looking at the great flood of communications out there) for key words.  There is wonder, however, that the followup was so intelligence-free.
