In the cozy worlds...

...of our friends and family, we rarely have to confront anything so distressing as an idea or opinion that's different from our own, and if we do, it's tempered by mutual affection.

When I express an opinion in public, I expect to have to defend it.

I'm acting under the assumption that that the "nature of this site" is that it encourages freedom of expression.

Am I wrong?

Why would you be wrong? I haven't seen any lack of freedom of expression on this site, ever.
