Christmas is coming, and turkeys are getting worried
Offline
I used to hate Xmas/ Thanks giving with a passion as a kid because for some strange reason people thought it was funny that I was Turkish and that people got to eat Turkeys. Get it? I come from Turkey and they eat a Turkey during this yule time festivities. Strange I know to be writing about it. Obviously left some emotional scarring ; )
The Country of Turkey in Turkish isnt even written as Turkey. Its written Turkiye. Its a mere coincidence that it means a big ass bird of game named a Turkey in English.
However I am looking forward to Xmas and eating a big fat Turkey with cranberry sauce and putting on some weight from all the awesome Festive Food.
Mmmmmm fattening.
The Turks are not getting worried but Turkey's around the world feel the destiny of a chopping block apporaching .

Let's have a UN conference to try and resolve to call each others country by the correct name.
Turkiye, Nederlands, Deuchland. Shouldn't be too hard.

I would agree with the idea, but getting English speakers to learn Mea-HEE-co (Mexico) or DOITSCH-lund (Germany) or get all non-english speaking people to say U-ni-ted Stay-ts instead if America, would be a major undertaking.
Hecki, half of us can't even pronounce KEL-tic properly.

I think people could pronounce the names how they liked, but just having an Atlas with all the correct names on, would help people to understand and respect each other more. Every little helps.

My big question about Thanksgiving is: if Ben Franklin had had his way, and the national bird had been the turkey, would we still eat it on Thanksgiving? It was traditional to eat turkey on Thanksgiving before the founding of the country, so would this tradition have been changed?

Hmmm interesting. In Australia we eat our National emblems ( the kangaroo and Emu). We feed Kangaroos to our pets even. Kangaroo meat is very lean and tasty. Mmmm Skippy

They must be difficult to hunt down in the wild, Some wild animals come for you, if you don't get them first. Aren't Kangeroo's good at boxing? Turkeys might be harder to catch but at least they can't beat the crap out of you
