yea, those long white ones that the Japanese girls wear...up to thighs. I think its something about seeing just a bit of thight between the skirt and the sock...and dont get me onto short pleated skirts...esp plaid ones.

The thing about long sox, especially the thigh high is that they indicate a border.  And there is territory above the border.  And it is such a short way from . . .
Short pleated skirts were made to compliment the border.  A narrow frontier zone?
