Is it possible, dear forum participants, that in a former life I was a cruel noble lord living in the middle ages in Europe or, in the less distant past, in Russia? I find myself quite frequently typing "www.ishotmyserf.com" instead of I shotmyself.com. Well, as a political liberal today, I hope that I am making amends. Still, the idea of shooting one's serf (well before cameras so there can be no doubt as to the meaning) is deeply disturbing.

Yes Trevor. I think you were a noble lord or at least an idle gentleman who would whittle away the hours hiding in the shubbery waiting to catch a glimpse of the milkmaids have a wash in the river. The early hours and the overnight campouts gave you a wonderful appreciation for nature and the passing of time. It taught you all the colours of the sunrise, some of which have never been seen again. I'm not sure where the cruelty comes into it tho. Care to expand?

Oh, what a nice image you paint, Artemesia, of me hiding to catch a glimpse of milkmaids washing. Do you know we owe to milk maids the discovery of vaccines? I do love milkmaids. As to the cruelty, does not it seem rather cruel were it true that I shot one if not many of my own serfs? However, since serfdom wasn't abolished in Russia until 1861 while the first commercial camera was introduced in 1839, conceivably, I shot my serf with one of these early cameras not a pistol. So, we shall imagine that I was a benovolent noble beloved by my serfs and allowed passionate liberties by his milkmaids, despite my being married and having nine children. Shall we start a website, www.ishotmyserf.com ? Baci.

Trevor, you're a hoot <3
And I believe you fit quite well in the beautiful scene Artemesia has painted in our heads. Your yearning for them made you dizzy, and presenting your 'Ode to Milkmaid' you wooed them gently. But as your heart swelled, so did the river. The sirens on the bank sang back, and it was you who was lured in to play . . .

All this talk of helpless men and beautiful women by the bank reminds me of a particular scene from 'O Brother Where Art Thou?' that always makes me hot under the collar. . .

Sondrine, what a beautiful image. Is it a tile? Do tell us what you know. You and Artemesia should continue writing the play. I'm really a good actor and will be pleased to play the part you are writing. I suspect you two are also good actors. How jolly.
Regarding, "O Brother Where Art Thou", I don't know the film. What is it that makes you "hot under the collar"?

Oh, and Sondrine, you write beautifully, with intelligence and wit. So does Artemesia and several
other contributors to this forum--when they do write. Hint to all.

Trevor, you never fail to flatter me :~) However, I think you would enjoy end of the story better played out in your mind .. I myself participated in school plays and scout musicals when I was younger. I had lots of fun, but I always preferred to sing.
O Brother Where Art Though is based on Homer's 'Odyssey', but set in Mississippi in the 1930s, and follows the journey of three escaped convicts. It's a very good film, clever and funny. I'd definitely suggest watching it ! ANyway, during their adventure they run into three saucy women washing their clothes in the creek (i.e. the sirens) who seduce them with a song... and moonshine... I included the scene in my post, but perhaps it didn't show up. Watch it for yourself and tell me it doesn't make your heart race ! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SJmZtn8vmt8
I'm not sure what medieval image is from. It appears to me to be a dropcap on a page of a book ? I did a reverse image search to find out but no source came up. I did however, find some excellent medieval pornography ... Here are a few of my favourites. Laney and I had a good giggle in the office today !
If you'd like to find more, I found a pinterest board full of them! https://www.pinterest.com/annazukowska5 … val-18%2B/
Enjoy,
Sondrine xx
