ARTISTS STATEMENT

The idea of shooting for I Shot Myself was exciting, but I was also very nervous. Slut-shaming has been a big part of my life, even though secretly I've always been a little sexually rebellious. I've been into photography for a few years, and I've always enjoyed shooting myself, so doing it naked just made sense. This was a way for me to say to people in my life, "Look, women exist. We have sex. I like being naked. I like being naked on the internet. Other people like to look at it. DEAL WITH IT." Humans need to be more open minded, myself included. Sex is fun! Being naked is fun! Why shouldn't that be captured and shared? It's also a fantastic way to feel better about yourself. After shooting, I felt like I deserved to go and eat an entire cake; I can't believe I thought before this that I needed to lose weight. My body image was so distorted. I feel so much more confident now, and I am really glad I decided to do this.
