ARTISTS STATEMENT
I'm kind of a little sick of seeing myself naked now. I've never really paid all that much attention to my naked body. Clothed, sure; I spend a lot of time agonising over what to wear for when. But naked? No. I have showers, get dressed and undressed and have sex but I've never really had a long proper look at what I look like nude. Which is weird really, considering I've spent twenty-three years in this body. Taking the photographs was difficult at first. It took me two attempts because the first time I was terrified of leaving my bedroom and the light quality ended up being not great. But the second time it was actually fun. To take the photographs I had to bend and twist and stretch and the new shapes and angles that I created interested me, especially from an artist's point of view, as I paint myself. I discovered a couple of things: I'm actually thinner than I imagine. My hips aren't as wide as I thought they were. Like just about every woman, I spend so much time obsessing about my body, my weight and dieting but taking these photographs surprised me and made me realise, is it really worth all that energy? Could I not just be okay like this and channel that energy into something far more interesting?
