ARTISTS STATEMENT

ISM was a difficult subject at first for my partner and I. He thought it was pornographic and I thought it was artistic. While we argued about me doing ISM on a secluded beach, two men whistled and hollered at me as they walked by, I was topless. I think there's something incredibly wrong with a society where the inequality between men and women is accepted without question. It's unfair that my partner could be topless on the beach without a second thought while I felt uncertain, a bit hesitant and caused outward reaction in other individuals. This is why I wanted to do ISM; To be a part of something bigger than myself in relation to changing perceptions of female body image and how the female body is perceived and judged in the public domain. Eventually, my partner understood and even wanted to take photos of himself! We both agreed about how liberating the experience was. In the end I changed at least one other persons understanding of the female body, so I feel it was a complete and utter success for me.
