ARTISTS STATEMENT

I have always loved the feeling of being naked, but didn't feel comfortable with others seeing me naked in my late teenage/early adulthood years. I was insecure about the way my lower tummy looked. When I started going to burlesque shows my perspective on my body completely shifted - in the shows all shapes, sizes and heights of bodies were admired. I love performing and being a show-off, and I think women taking up space is so attractive! I love being queer and the joy that has brought me, especially in regard to sense of belonging and self acceptance/appreciation. The I Shot Myself project is so raw and genuine, and I wanted to be a part of something that emphasises being natural and not staged. Women are in control of how they want to be perceived in their folios, that's so important! I wanted to strip back to the natural me, with no personas involved, and challenge those thoughts I had about my body years ago. It's so fun rolling around taking photos!

I like to listen to: The sound of pigeons cooing, they are so cute and funny!
I like to watch: People undressing and the unique ways they do it - burlesque performances have really highlighted the different ways you can, whether it be sexy or funny!
I like to smell: The smell of rain, especially after a heatwave
I like to taste: Mash potatoes, Japanese lagers, anything that has lots of carbs haha
I like to feel: Fresh sheets on my skin, stretching after a stressful day, and back tickles
favourite part of my body: My hips, specifically the crease where my legs and hips join when I kneel or squat. My curly hair too!
favourite part of someone else's body: I love all shapes and sizes of chests, cuddling in to collarbones makes me so happy! I am also very attracted to eyes, especially when they're different colours
Why i shot myself: As it was something out of my comfort zone, and I love what the projects stands for!
who I'd least like to see shoot themselves: Anyone who unironically thinks men are "superior"
who I'd most like to see shoot themselves: Anyone who feels like they can't take a 'nice' photo of their vulva. I thought I couldn't and proved myself wrong!
Most outrageous thing I have done: Driving all the way across Australia in a run-down van :/ We only broke down once though yippee!
Bands I like: Fontaines D.C., Blur, Amyl and The Sniffers, IDLES, Radiohead, Lady Gaga, Doja Cat
Books I like: I don't read much unfortunately, but Gender Trouble by Judith Butler changed my life
Films I like: Chicago, The Babadook, 28 Days/Weeks Later, Femme (2023)
