ARTISTS STATEMENT

So I'm from the US, and a BIIIG freedom head. I've been talking about changing the world, but I really mean changing my world view. Growing up, I always was on the receiving end of harsh and habitual criticisms about my body, making me simultaneously so self conscious about my own body while also hyper critical about the bodies of others. Though now I feel I've come to a place of radical acceptance with myself, as someone who engages with sex work and is in community with sex workers on a regular basis, I STILL have periods of time where I compare myself to the people I engage with. And in that, I see the residual message that rings in my head that everything that makes up my physical appearance is wrong, and everything about me would need some sort alteration to even HOPE to access the social and financial currency that would bring ease to my living as I witness it do for my peers. So it's participating in projects like this, and modelling for life drawing classes really helps fortify the opposing belief: the every bit of my body is worthy of celebrating, documenting, and being seen. And in fact BECAUSE I often feel so overlooked/devalued means that when I DO decide to step out of that and do it anyway, I'm shining a light through the door for those who have a similar lives experience to feel safe showing up boldly to be seen. And ultimately, that's how I create the world I want to see, this is how I change the world, my world at least.
