ARTISTS STATEMENT

I've been interested in photography since my early teens and received my first DSLR after spending months on a photography sharing platform where I saw tons of artist creatively capture themselves and close subjects. The ones I admired most always seemed to take self-portraits and they'd have a large collection of them, often participating in 365 day challenges. Photography and self-portraits really moved me, it seemed like the most experimental and limitless form of self-expression especially for someone who was just beginning to find themselves. As a result, I explored film and set up shoots with friends where I was both the subject at times and the creator for others. As I continued on this path I began to run into barriers in relation to shooting film and directing subjects which discouraged me from pursuing the medium further. That along with the way self-portraiture, nudity, and photography online have transformed over time in ways I find extremely monotonous and restrictive. After being introduced to ISM I found it very freeing and it sparked my love of photography again. Using a DLSR again and having myself as the creator and subject was a new experience I definitely want keep recreating.
