ARTISTS STATEMENT

I never imagined that 41 would feel or look like this and that has been the greatest and most wonderful surprise about aging. Only I don't feel like I am really aging, I feel stuck in time somehow. I now understand the quote "Youth is wasted on the young" (George Bernard Shaw). I am still so thirsty for knowledge and hungry for experience yet have none of the self consciousness and doubt that plagued me in my 20s. I don't conform to society's expectations of me. I don't yearn for marriage, children or a mortgage. I yearn for foreign lands, to learn foreign languages and explore other cultures. I still go out dancing until sunrise and go away for weekend camping festivals. I now know that our bodies are meant to be celebrated and enjoyed, not hidden or made to feel guilt or shame about feeling pleasured by touch, from ourselves or others. For me, this project is a little celebration of that.

I like to smell: freshly chopped garlic on my fingers, the bare, natural scent of a man's skin.
I like to taste: a good cocktail, a lover's kiss (the deep, open, tasting kind), quality gelato.
I like to feel: high on and consumed by great music.
favourite part of my body: I'm pretty happy with all of it. I think my feet are nice. I like my breasts and my big, blue eyes.
favourite part of someone else's body: Everybody is unique, every inch of it wonderful. I love overall nakedness and the feeling of skin on skin.
Why i shot myself: I wanted to challenge myself, confront myself with my nakedness and ultimately, celebrate where I am in life.
who I'd least like to see shoot themselves: My mother.
who I'd most like to see shoot themselves: Some of my stunning but self conscious girlfriends who don't realise their own beauty.

Most outrageous thing I have done: Take naked shots of myself for the interwebs.

Books I like: Books by Indian authors like Rohinton Mistry, Vikram Seth, Vikram Chandra. Books on Middle Eastern politics, fiction and autobiographical books by Middle Eastern authors.
Films I like: French and Spanish language films. Films from Middle Eastern countries. Arthouse.
