ARTISTS STATEMENT

To me, the body is not a prison. It functions as a conduit through which I am able to express myself, outwardly, powerfully. It has taken me a while, but over the years I have come to see it as such. I am more self-assured and less concerned with others' perceptions of me and my body. Although being naked still affords me a sense of vulnerability, I no longer feel anxious as a result of being overly self-critical. I derive a sense of autonomy from being naked and I feel no shame or embarrassment; and in the absence of shame, there is room for freedom, freedom to just be, un-apologetically and with confidence. I'm excited to be a part of a project like I Shot Myself because it's allowed me to experiment with self-expression and see my body in a new way. I love my body because I've chosen to embrace the skin I'm in, and I'm not afraid to show that.

biggest passion in my life: My loved ones, art, writing, justice and music. I can't simply choose one, there are too many wonderful things in this life to be passionate about.
I like to listen to: music, birds chatting, the kettle boiling, soft voices. I also love the sound of a busy city.
I like to watch: the sun rise and set, steam rising from a cup of tea, the rain beating down on my window.
I like to smell: coffee at any time of day, flowers from all the beautiful gardens on my street, rain.
I like to taste: spices of all kinds, especially cayenne pepper. I put it on everything, and I mean EVERYTHING!
I like to feel: free of worry, satisfied, nostalgic. Nostalgia can be bittersweet though.
favourite part of my body: My neck because it's super sensitive. I also love how it looks: the shape, the length, everything. I also love dressing it up with a gorgeous necklace on occasion.
favourite part of someone else's body: Lips and arms are two things that I find myself noticing about people straight away.
Why i shot myself: I wanted to gain a new experience, to do something bold that I've never done before.
who I'd least like to see shoot themselves: Tony Abbott. Hands down. I've already seen enough of his feeble body in budgy smugglers. I don't wish to give myself PTSD.
who I'd most like to see shoot themselves: Ryan Gosling and Angelina Jolie, for obvious reasons.
my website/fav website: Tumblr because it's such a great platform for visual communication and sharing info. Think of anything you're interested in, there's most likely a Tumblr page dedicated to it!
Most outrageous thing I have done: Yet to be determined. If I had to pick something I've already done it'd probably be something really lame, like not doing an assignment for uni.
Bands I like: David Bowie, Black Sabbath, Down, Pantera, Black Flag. This is a hard one to answer because I love so many different kinds of music, but these are my old faves.
Books I like: Anything by Charles Bukowski. My favourites are The Post Office and Love is A Dog From Hell.
Films I like: Anything by Quentin Tarantino. Two of my favourites are Pulp Fiction (an obvious one) and Jackie Brown (sooo complex).
