ARTISTS STATEMENT

I grew up in a really religious, conservative family where loving your body is taboo. Boobs, penis and vagina were all called 'private parts'. Learning to accept my body and feel comfortable in my own skin didn't come easy. I decided to forge my own path and be true to the person I am, not who I was told to be. I find public nudity so liberating. It brings a sense of excitement and self empowerment. This is my body and I'm sick of society telling me to be ashamed of it. I'd love to be an advocate for ultra thin girls who are healthy and struggle to put on weight, constantly being told to eat something, 'real women' have curves and thin is unhealthy. I am just as real as any other woman, I have weight issues too, its just frowned upon for me to voice those issues. I want to break the silence. All women have body issues and through empathy and understanding we can all find common ground. We are all beautiful, no matter what size, shape or colour and I think the ISM project allows the chance to find your own confidence in front of the lens and allow your true beauty to shine through.
