This is a poem a friend wrote for me, about me and all my hair. So you have hair, so what?// She had hair,// She did. She was all around me with her hair, so what?// She was all around me, so you were all around me,// I tried to breathe and couldn't breathe, your hair it was in my lungs.// Black smoke.// You've made me drown, so what?// You're all around me with your hair. I smell you, your shampoo, smokey, it brings tears. I tell whoever wants to listen I've been scooped up in your bower-bird bower hair.// A shiny blue thing in my t-shirt today,// now I'm this little ugly treasure swept into your bower.// No one wants to listen. Who am I telling you already know you've got hair you told me but when you told me you didn't know// about me and hair and drowning and your back has a coathanger on it, twisted and tangled amidst the curls and if you would turn around.// Please turn around,// Sweep back your hair. It confuses me and makes me drown. I dream of mermaids and that's not helping anyone.// Turn around. Let me see your lips and your bellybutton, your breasts, I can't see your breasts for all that hair.// She turned around.// Oh!// And now I'm a puddle on the floor. This is what inspired me to take the photoset, I wanted to be the girl he writes about in the poem, show myself as he sees me.
