ARTISTS STATEMENT

Getting naked is a statement: I own my own body. Despite it is a common belief that nudity is private, there is nothing more public than our bodies. They are shaped through everyday life, through our own interpretations and performances of age, beauty, gender, sexuality, ethnicity, etc, as well as the groups we belong to and the way everybody else sees and relates to us. I like to shoot myself because I can explore how my body is made and perceived, while I discover it. Erotica is a way to express my sexuality by objectifying it and making it controllable. Desnudarme es una declaración: yo poseo mi cuerpo. A pesar de que la creencia de que la desnudez es privada es muy común, no hay nada más público que nuestros cuerpos. Estos son moldeados a traves de la vida cotidiana, incluyendo nuestras propias interpretaciones y formas de actuar la edad, la belleza, el genero, la sexualidad, la etnicidad, etc. Igualmente, nuestros cuerpos se construyen por medio de los grupos a los que pertenecemos y la manera en que los demás nos ven y se relacionan con nosotros. Me gusta tomarme fotografías porque así puedo explorar cómo mi cuerpo está construído y es percibido, mientras lo descubro. La erótica es una manera de expresar mi sexualidad al objetivarla y hacerla controlable.
