ARTISTS STATEMENT

I initially wanted to contribute to ISM because I feel that it's a fantastic forum for exploring the full spectrum of female sexuality and celebrating one's place in that spectrum. Being a naturally shy, introverted person raised in a small, religious, conservative town, accepting my own sexuality has been a slow process, but a fun and wonderful one that I've tried to embrace fully. I felt that creating and sharing photos through ISM would be an illuminating step in that process. Soon after deciding to contribute I found out I was pregnant, which gave me other reasons to photograph myself. I've personally felt more beautiful the more pregnant I've become, and I wanted to capture that feeling during this incredibly special and meaningful time in my life - documenting, exploring, and celebrating the many ways my body has changed. Unfortunately, for months my partner's complete lack of attraction toward me as a pregnant woman was a serious emotional barrier to following through on this, but I ultimately decided that in spite of and because of my difficulty in dealing with those feelings, it was important that I do this for ME - to embrace and express myself and my body without regard to anyone's thoughts or perceptions but my own.
