LUI_VONSTROM 
ARTISTS STATEMENT
My teenage years were spent growing up in Cairns - known as some groovy tropical holiday destination to foreigners and a total hicks town to locals - funny how that works. Being a teenager there sucked, being a small town and all, there's no space for new ideas - so you either fit in or you don't, either cool or a dork. Not only did I have my own opinions, I looked different too. Despite Australia's recognition for being one big melting pot of cultures, I was the only Asian in my circle of friends and one of the very few in my high school. It was around this time I stumbled across Suicide Girls - beautiful, confident, colourful woman all shapes, sizes, ethnicity and just doing their own thing, I really admired that yet never saw myself doing it. But out of sudden spur-of-moment syndrome, I've gone and taken photos for the world to see of my less-than-ideal body in my teenage peers' opinion. And I guess through Project_ISM, regardless of my unconventional method, this is me conforming to the cliche that although you may not share the same music taste as 'them', nor do you smell like Christina Aguilera and you -actually - have hair from head to toe, you're still cool; because there's no other person like you. Most outrageous thing I have done: Walking to the laundromat in my undies due to washing machine breakdown, accepting candy from strangers, skinny dipping with strangers, falling in love.
