ARTISTS STATEMENT

I love to play. I love to swim, ski, dance, climb and I love my body because it allows me to do all these fun things. I love to be naked in nature, to feel the sun and the breeze on my skin. My body is beautiful, strong, curvy and sensual. Sometimes I forget this and think of my body as purely aesthetic. I compare myself to others, or I compare myself to my past. I sometimes imagine the ideal body I will one day have, once I start eating healthy, exercising regulary etc; but that is not fair to the body I have now. It is not respectful or healthy. My body is perfect because it is the body I have right now, and the tool I use to experience the world around me. By sharing these photos online, I hope that others draw some inspiration and love for their own beautiful bodies. I Shot Myself is a special project because it lets women present themselves as they are. Personally, I need to express and reveal myself in all ways, writing, dancing, acting, conversation. This is how I question myself and learn. I share my writing online and I love how the internet is a forum for anyone to create anything for a large audience. With I Shot Myself I can capture where I am physically, emotionally, and artistically at a moment in time. It's like a journal entry, describing a facet of myself in visual language. I hope to do more folios so I can see how I change over time and moods. I hope to do folios when I am 90. There are so many impossible images of beauty facing us in the media these days, I am happy that there is a project like I Shot Myself where women are in full control of how we portray ourselves. I had great fun with the shoot, so I hope you have fun looking.
