ARTISTS STATEMENT

A damsel from the past is struggling to escape the clutches of a self-imagined, menancing monster. WHO WILL SAVE HER? As a fan of old black and white films from as early as the 20s, I love to be the powerful, well-dressed, well-spoken female day to day. What really strikes me about these early films is the representation of both elements of the female persona, the tenderness and fragility of the weaker vessel entwined with the strength of a bold and determined character. For 'I SHOT MYSELF' I wanted to celebrate these endearing qualities. And why am I naked? Because it makes me feel spectacular and empowered. If I am celebrating the nature of my femininity, showing my nude form is as honest and as non-polluted as I can get.

Films I like: Anything starring Rita Hayworth, Olivia de Havilland, Simone Simon, Ginger Rogers...give me singing and dancing films from the past anyday.
