ARTISTS STATEMENT

I'm 22 years old, originaly from a small country town in NSW. I grew up on and near the land. After finishing high school in 2003, I spent 2 years as a rouseabout and then made the move down to Melbourne at the start of 2006. I've been studying a Bachelors of Graphic Design for the past 3 years and I also work as a bar tender. I love the arts, I've been drawing since the moment I could sit upright, and painting is second nature to me. That's my life in a nutshell. I suppose in a way I just wanted to do something completely random and to challenge myself. For me it is a challenge in more ways than one; firstly, I'm an illustrator not a photographer, and secondly I've never been comfortable with my own image. So in a way this acts as a way of forcing myself to face some of my fears and to learn to accept myself for who and what I am. I wanted to do this more for myself rather than anything else, as a way of learning a bit more about who I am by stepping out of my comfort zone and having a bit of fun at the same time.
