ARTISTS STATEMENT

Shooting myself was the best fun. Actually, some bits of it weren’t so much fun – like wishing I was elastogirl, deleting all the pictures with lots of air and very little me and worrying whether the neighbour was going to pop up (she did actually – right at the very end!). But checking out the pictures afterwards was a total buzz. I am so impressed with myself. Firstly that I managed to take some photos that I really love and secondly that the subject matter was my very own body. I’m impressed that I got over the voices in my head that said "Jeez you can’t do that, you’re way too old and way too fat", and listened to the ones that said "Go on – show em' those luscious earth goddess curves!" I’m really impressed with how those curves showed up. Yes, even rounder than I had imagined, I have to say, but gloriously gorgeous nevertheless.

Why i shot myself: I shot myself to see how it felt, to check out whether I felt exploited or empowered, to see if I could make art out of my body and as a kind of challenge to myself

who I'd most like to see shoot themselves: all my girlfriends – actually I just checked the front page and there’s one of them – seriously!!

Most outrageous thing I have done: worked as a university lecturer by day and a stripper by night. One night I saw one of my students come in to the club. I don’t think he recognized me with no clothes on!
