ARTISTS STATEMENT

My Female Body as an Object: I was trained in Ballet early on and suspect this to be the source of my interest in S&M, particularly Japanese Rope Bondage. The Body was regarded as a tool to be manipulated, and we were encouraged to seek fault in what we saw in the Mirror. Of Hippy stock, I also had the good Fortune to encounter Yoga and Meditation from early childhood, and am grateful for the Balance this brought to my Attitude towards my Body; the Temple which facilitates access to my most powerful and valuable tool, the Mind. Inhaling, Exhaling, I am aware of all my senses. This is the bit that allowed me to really enjoy pregnancy and childbirth. (Body = Tool, no question). Apparently dancers are notoriously crap at surrendering to the primal power of the birthing process. I get why. I mean, Ballet teaches us that the ideal Body Shape is that of a boy - I missed puberty as a teenage ballerina, but when my milk came in my breasts filled an F cup bra. My mum taught me to pee on my toes to toughen them when we first went en pointe; I was the only one in the class who didn't have big dramas with blood and blisters.
