ARTISTS STATEMENT
The human being - body, mind - so beautiful in all its forms, so natural; bringing so much pleasure, yet so much pain, suffering. My first contribution to ISM explores the Buddhist concept of 'Kleshas', or 'Three Poisons' - excessive desire, anger/aversion and ignorance, represented respectively by the colors red, green and black. According to the Buddhist texts, the Kleshas are afflictive emotions that disturb our clarity or perception, and cause us to act negatively with body, speech and mind; thus creating suffering for ourselves and others. So, to be freed from the Kleshas, from the suffering they create, is to be mindful and develop an unshakeable awareness of oneself and one's impact on others. Shooting myself was learning to become more comfortable in my body, to love and respect my body - although imperfect, perfect in its own way. The more I understand and in having loving kindness towards myself, the more I can understand and love others. Om mani padme hum.
