ARTISTS STATEMENT

I feel so happy and privileged to live in a context, and enjoy a level of security (in my body and living space), where I can go outside and express myself. A lot of the work I make in my art practice involves going outside and making films (normally I am nude in these) and it is interesting to me that ishotmyself feels related but different. In the artwork I make it is more to do with body, the trans-human, creatures, interspecies, aliens and sex. Recently I've been making large-scale sculptural butt plugs and armatures to perform with. Ishotmyself feels more private or in the kinky realm, like it's a hot process, it's a photo I might send to a lover, it's a softer more playful energy/expression. They're both super important parts of me, and I feel like this project can help me clarify the wiggly borderline between erotic art, art that can be perceived as erotic (anything can, really!) and pornography or nudes. I used to be a life model which was a whole other experience - I became more of an object in that way, other artists would project their own image or interpretation of my being into their work. Sometimes I would lie there for so long and zone out and feel the sensation of their brushes on my skin. It was blissful. I am lucky to feel so connected to my body and to me perceiving sensation is where the world begins. So I'm excited to continue using my body in my artwork, continuing to shoot myself, and be an inspiring muse.
