ARTISTS STATEMENT

I chose to do this shoot because I've always struggled with loving my body. In my head I've either been too thick, not thick enough, too blemished with too many stretch marks and the list goes ON. Growing up in a culture that bases itself on the concept of shame, I've never really been able to be completely comfortable with my naked body. I wasn't expecting this shoot to completely change how I view myself. All of a sudden it was like, "Fuck yeah, this shy brown gal IS sexy". I'm makeup free in all my photos and chose not to shave which I was super nervous about but I felt so empowered doing so! I kept it really simple too since I find myself diverting the camera away from myself a lot and I wanted this to be about me. This shoot has really set me on the path to unconditional self love - body hair, rolls, and stretch marks included.
