ARTISTS STATEMENT

From a very young age, we internalize that our self-worth is directly correlated to the male gaze. We are less than nothing if not attractive in the eyes of the opposite sex. As I got older and got into relationships, I realized that people would compliment my figure - but not to me, to my then boyfriend. I had finally hit the 'holy grail' of physical acceptance, but all of the accolades that come with it now belonged to somebody else. My body is mine and how I feel about myself requires no external validation. I hope to keep learning this as I get older.
