ARTISTS STATEMENT

I wanted to express the level of intimacy I feel with my self in addition to exploring the sense of detachment I feel to my physical body. This led me to taking a series of distorted close up shots that somewhat detach specific body parts from the body as a whole. I tried not to look at my photos at all while shooting because I like the idea of the camera being a mirror. You can not edit or delete your image in a mirror and I wanted this project to reflect my image as raw and mirror like as possible. For props I chose to use objects that are actively around me and used regularly. I chose to shoot it in my room because it is my Xanadu, my personal and safe space where I am most myself and the happiest. I wanted to explore abstracting elements curves and lines of my body in close up shots to further demonstrate the detachment I often feel from my physical form. I feel most at peace and content within the company of myself and within my dreams.

Why i shot myself: To feel liberated and express the intimacy I feel with myself when I am alone.

Most outrageous thing I have done: I hiked over 500 miles in the wilderness for 2 months. I have also almost died 3 times, but that is a story for another time
