ARTISTS STATEMENT

For most of my life I was uncomfortable getting naked or showing any part of my body. I spent many years self harming and despising every inch however after beginning both a photography degree and recovery from anorexia I decided it was time to get comfortable in my body. I took self portraits and turned them into conceptual art pieces and began saying "yes" to any photography friends who needed a model. I modeled nude in many places including the Otways National Park and as strangers walked past and saw my body or looked at the photographs afterwards I started to not care and become comfortable in my skin. Now four years later I am fully comfortable in my skin, every scar, every freckle, my weight, every part I can now accept. I haven't shot a self portrait in a very long time so doing this folio allowed me to do that again. It was so enjoyable being in front of the camera again under my terms.

I like to listen to: The sound of friends or family when they sing their favorite song in the shower or in the car
I like to watch: The look on my friends faces when I surprise them with a thoughtful gift
I like to smell: The vegan lime body wash I have in my bathroom each morning when I shower
I like to taste: Mangos & raspberries because I'm not meant to eat them thanks to my fructose intolerence
I like to feel: Comfortable in my own skin and being able to show others how comfortable I feel
favourite part of my body: Is my mermaid hair which I've changed numerous times from blue to pink to rainbow
favourite part of someone else's body: Their hands which I love to hold or touch
Why i shot myself: I have done fine art nude photography and thought it'd be great to do a non-edited nude shoot done by me
who I'd least like to see shoot themselves: Donald Trump although then again it'd certainly be interesting
who I'd most like to see shoot themselves: Julia Gillard because she's a strong powerful women and I think she'd make an incredible shoot
my website/fav website: Is the classical art memes page on Facebook because I adore classical art (I go to art galleries regularly) and memes are my other favorite thing so them together is fab
Most outrageous thing I have done: A nude fine art photography shoot in Merri Creek
Bands I like: A Norwegian singer named Maria Mena who sings about her life and mental illness in the most honest and haunting way. I also love the typical sorts of musicians; Florence + the Machine, Bowie, etc
Books I like: I Never Promised You a Rose Garden - I have a second hand copy which the librarian at my school bought me due to it being out of print
Films I like: About A Boy, simply because I have managed to watch it over 10 times and I still find the scene with Hugh Grant singing hilarious
