ARTISTS STATEMENT

2015 marks my 10th anniversary with feminism, social justice, gender politics, and learning about the inequalities of race, class, and sexuality. Along the way, I've experienced a transformation in the way I feel about and connect to my body. From my first sexual experience to depression, STD tests, casual sex, choosing a long term partner, and choosing a set of physical and mental activities that make me happy and encourage me to be healthy, all of it has reflected onto or been reflected by my body. The first time I saw someone's drawing of me naked I felt like I'd stepped into a different dimension where my body was all flowing lines, tonal shades, and muscles and gorgeous fat. Inherently sexy. Inherently me, yet not me at the same time. I am a dynamic, ever-changing body. And I identify as a woman who loves sex, loves being naked, and loves being in my body. This makes me a very privileged person. One of my goals in life is to either participate in projects or help other people do projects that lead them on a similar journey, our bodies are valuable and miraculous. These are our bodies. We have the power to be seen exactly as we desire, but sometimes we should fight for it. It's worth it.
