‘FERNLARK’ by ESSIE
RELOAD - 24 DEC 2018
"This shoot was, to say the least, invigorating. I was walking through the Wombat State Forest with a friend the other day when I came up with the craziest idea - "Why don't I just go for it and complete a shoot here?". My friend looked at me as if I had gone mad but eventually admitted that it would be pretty awesome. So I checked the weather for the next week and decided on a day that was hopefully going to be the warmest and driest day possible (warmest being 11 degrees). Feeling extremely nervous/excited/mad I headed out to the forest to get naked with the trees. The shoot was nowhere near as cold as I thought it was going to be and the atmosphere was magical. Sunlight was seeping through the gigantic trees around me and creating pretty shadows along the mossy floor. I did a lot of experimenting with angles and props, using fallen logs, branches and ferns to compliment the photos. Toward the end I was really getting into it, almost feeling like a forest nymph that you read about in fairytales. But then I heard a shout a few hundred metres around me and I swear my body jolted like lightning had passed through it. I hightailed it for my clothes and threw on whatever I could. I cannot describe the amount of adrenaline pumping through me as I peeped over the ferns. Thankfully, I saw no one. This shoot was awesome and very magical! It was freezing but towards the end the cold no longer phased me as I was enjoying myself so much. I hope you enjoy this shoot and find the magic in it as much as I did."
