ARTISTS STATEMENT

I love people and I love looking at people's bodies. I see beauty everywhere out there, in everybody else's body...and now, I'm finally coming to really love every part of my own body. It has taken me 33 years. In the past I regularly found fault with my legs which I disliked so much that I never wore skirts! This dominant fashion culture idealises unrealistic body images and being so small, I never felt like I measured up. Instead I relied on the sparkle in my eye, to reassure myself of a deeper beauty I believe I have always had. I loved taking these photographs, because I gained new perpective about the way that I look. I really believed that I looked fat, or stocky, regardless what my lovers said. Being so happy with the results of these photos I know now that I am beginning a new, healthy, realistic relationship with this fantastic body. I will be sure to give my daughter the opportunity to know herself through photography, just like I have. For me this has been a beautiful journey of self discovery. I don't want to hide my body anymore, or deny myself the pleasure of revealing it in a way that makes me feel alive and sexy because I am. I am a woman!
