ARTISTS STATEMENT

Ishotmyself was a really interesting experience for me to become a lot more comfortable with myself, my body and being naked on camera which was something I'd never done before. I've always been quite insecure about my body, especially when I was about 16-17. In the world we live in, with it's attitudes towards women's bodies in particular, it's really easy to get caught up in this idea of 'perfect' body types and standards of beauty and to compare yourself to that. When I first decided to come to Feck, I was unsure how I was going to feel about the whole process of being naked on camera, but I loved the work they were doing and I wanted to get involved so I thought I'd give it a go. At first, I was really awkward about it, I wasn't sure what to do or if I'd feel comfortable actually showing the photos to anyone, but I was surprised how much fun I had doing the shoot and how comfortable I felt afterwards showing them off. It gave me a sense of pride that this was something I'd done by myself and for myself. It was an interesting experience being the model and the photographer, but it allowed me to conduct the shoot the way I wanted and on my terms. Ishotmyself has given me so much more confidence in my body and myself. Now I can't wait to get involved in more of Feck's projects!

Why i shot myself: To express myself and to celebrate the natural beauty of the human body; women should be able to freely love their bodies without inhibitions or societal pressures
who I'd least like to see shoot themselves: My boss. Talk about awkward
who I'd most like to see shoot themselves: My best friend because she's amazing but she doesn't always see it
