Have you noticed a shortage of joy in your local area? Sure, there’s a recession on and we haven’t yet squashed imperialism and they stopped the nightly re-runs of ‘Cheers’ on basic cable, but guess what: all over the world are versions of Joana doing nude flag dances on the beach. That evens things out a little, doesn’t it?

I was walking along the creek last week and I saw a gnarled hand reaching up through the ground, slightly off the path. As I approached this strange appendage, I saw that it was holding out a CD, seemingly offering it to me. I took it home, wiped off the mud, and opened its contents to find this, an offering from the underworld, a strange and sparkly and saturated place where the heat of the earth’s core is palpable – and visible.
