The candidness of these images is one of the best things about duets - when the subjects have something else to occupy their attention, there is often less awareness of the camera's eye. This means we get to witness a few more moments of unstaged, genuine bliss than we might otherwise.

With all their access to the digital age, it's nice to see so many ISM artists featuring throwbacks to the days of film in their folios. There's nothing like the permanence of a printed image, light transposed onto plastic in the chemistry experiment of conventional photography.

Gina_Cherie gives us the peep we've always wanted, the one that shows us what it's like to look out from the inside of the booth. It seems like every folio she produces is an attempt at out-cheekying herself, which makes us breathless with anticipation for what it'll be next time.

The quality of the light in Mischan’s debut is almost as dreamy as she is. Her approach to a more ‘natural’ theme is so very genuine and appreciative of the landscape she inhabits, and the dusky, earthy mood of her images is no mean feat for a first-time contributor.

Being the contrary lass that she is, Apples has chosen to ignore the age-old imperative ‘don’t crack your gum’. In shots so crisply defined you can actually hear the pop of her Bubbilicious, she reminds her viewers that she will never kowtow to ‘the rules’ – she only follows her own.

In Jox’s locale, you really can go from rain to shine and back again (ten or twelve times) in a day, and on the particular day she donned her camera and her moxy, that is just what came and went. But like any seasoned Melbournite, she just smiles on through it, knowing that it’s not forever. In fact, it’s probably only for the next few minutes.

We know that at least a few of you out there will share Susie’s strange fascination with public toilets. They are, after all, the crossroad of all unspeakables, shared by many but discussed by few. The ones she’s visited over the years have quite a range of aesthetic qualities and levels of cleanliness, but she shies away from none.

Jelena is not the sort to take herself too seriously, and her latest folios have bordered on silliness more than once. The thought of her just mucking around in her bedroom (before the innocent eyes of her stuffed animals, no less) is down-to-earth and terribly endearing.
