This is Cocobean’s version of ‘easy living’, which comes easier to some than it does to others. She would most likely fall under the category of ‘some’, considering the sweet and placid expression she maintains throughout. And anyone who owns a hammock has R&R built into her existence.

The ephemeral marvel of chemistry and physics that is bubbles is one of those things that makes you happy without you ever having to ask why. What do we find so pleasing about something so simple? It never stops being satisfying, and we've all spent an afternoon on the back porch with a bottleful of its charm. Cobain pays homage to it in true ISM form, and while we still can't break down its effects on us, we feel like we've just gone through a whole bottle ourselves.

Chazie bathes in that kind of light that makes everything visible – as it streams in through the window, you can see the air through it, fragments of dust floating about, the history of the universe in its dependence upon that very same light. Pretty cool way to burst onto the ISM stage, miss.

Welcome to Frank’s tank. She and the bull welcome you to join them for a bit of stargazing, desertcombing, and contemplating life and death. They’ve picked up their share of roamers in their time together, and not a one can say they ain't better for it.

‘O our mother the earth, O our father the sky, Your children are we, and with tired backs, We bring you gifts that you love.’ And so goes the Tewa prayer that we recommend you all familiarise yourselves with, since you’ve been blessed with the perfect photographic accompaniment to its verses.

There are some perfect shots for the ‘don’t ban the can’ campaign in amongst this expression of Marnic angst. Taking the ‘naked tagger’ angle might be the best way to reach the more conservative anti-graff folks out there – naked ladies have the tendency to change minds.

Even in the wild outdoors (aka her backyard), Spacewitch manages to look nothing short of polished and perfect. Ah, the sleek lines of the modern hipstress – never failing to look suitably urbane, no matter where she sits in relation to the metropolis.

Sometimes just the way an ISM artist looks at the lens can deeply affect the mood of her images. Kanya’s confrontational and confident gaze, even more than her stark, grungy setting, is what makes this folio so punchy and so powerful. She dares you to look away.

We enter a completely different world in Mamadell’s folios. She certainly knows how to create a visual atmosphere. This one explores the sharper edges of her femininity, and is a perfect follow-up to the golden softness of her debut. Her images give us a sense that we’ve crossed into complex territory, and that thrill is why we do what we do.

Zosha and her tiny totems are a welcome addition to the ISM ladyscape. While we can certainly see some resemblances between her and her spirit guides, we’re not sure what to make of the bear; could Zosha be a little more fierce than she seems on the surface?

The rarest of the butterflies stands out against those more common species. Niansa is certainly not the sort of creature you see every day – only in your luckiest times could you hope to share a sidewalk with her. Completely unique and so beautiful you want to preserve her forever, her finest fluttering awaits you.

I suspect that I’d be beside myself should I meet freckle in the battlefield – pulling out the white flag before I even realised that her weapons were made of plastic. And cuteness. You’ll be watching where you step from now on, knowing that she could be lurking in the underbrush.

Green_gem looks so very at home in her forest wonderland that it’s hard to believe she didn’t just sprout right up from the very same ground. And depending on how you look at it, perhaps she did. The sense of peace that her expression suggests makes it seem as though there’s a very special connection taking place in these images.

She’s a tour guide to the wonders and amazements of the world, but for a moment she diverts from the tour to give us a more intimate tour of herself. Nicky_Green is colour from the inside out, and so of course she needed to make it an essential part of her ISM.

Aurea had never struck us as the comics-nerd type, but we are pleased as punch to discover this geeky little hobby of hers. We only wish we had the chops to make the appropriate references in response, but we can say that she is most definitely the Marvel of our Universe.
