Feb 10, 2010 andi//"shooter" Video
Oh, that southern drawl. There's nothing more American, not even cherry pie. For those who are already Andi fans, this should be thoroughly satisfying. And for those who haven't perused her work in the archives, you'll be hearing that singsong speech in the back of your mind as you get (very) familiar.
Feb 10, 2010 elyse//"greenwood"
If there's one particular area of skill in Elyse's self-portraiture, it's that she's perfected her technique for photographing her bum. If you've ever attempted to perform this act, you will have some idea of the degree to which it leaves most baffled and straining and bending in half, but she makes it look like a breeze.
Feb 10, 2010 roe//"integral"
We all have fluctuating feelings regarding the concept of transparency – it’s one of those themes that evolves with life’s experiences, and for the unique group of individuals who contribute to ISM, it’s just one of the many things to contemplate. Here’s Roe’s meditation on the topic, one approached with honesty and simplicity.
The vibrance of colour and light here are a direct effusion of that which exists within Miss Mellow. Her presence is at once calming and energising, like a strong peppermint tea that brings you to life in its freshness whilst easing your body and soul.
Feb 09, 2010 avarra//"bordercross"
If Avarra was just dipping her toes into this sort of thing in her debut, she's definitely decided to dive right into her second ISM. And why bother doing something so outside-the-box if you're not going to take the plunge? If you'd like to hear a little more about this lady's experience of public exposure, you're sure to find her keen for a chat in the Forums.
Feb 08, 2010 bard//"folksong"
ISM folios mimick musical compositions in more ways than one, and if Bard's debut was a song, it would be a folksy one. Gentle and melodic, assured in its simplicty but complicated by the level of skill with which it is created, it also occasionally bursts in with the fantastic kitsch of a female accordionist.
Feb 08, 2010 swordfish//"amberglow"
At first glance she’s just your everyday sweet and lovely, with hair down to there and a modest smile. Which is why you’ve really got to read into Swordfish’s moniker and her rather interesting profile; things are not what they seem, and your hand that reaches out to shake hers may not return intact.
The candidness of these images is one of the best things about duets - when the subjects have something else to occupy their attention, there is often less awareness of the camera's eye. This means we get to witness a few more moments of unstaged, genuine bliss than we might otherwise.
Feb 07, 2010 tali_p//"celluloid"
With all their access to the digital age, it's nice to see so many ISM artists featuring throwbacks to the days of film in their folios. There's nothing like the permanence of a printed image, light transposed onto plastic in the chemistry experiment of conventional photography.
This is mountain life. It's not for everyone, but you're not looking at just anyone. You're looking at The Eco Whore. If her general presence on the screen isn't enough to explain just how she is a bit extraordinary, she'll be happy to explicate that for you herself.
Gina_Cherie gives us the peep we've always wanted, the one that shows us what it's like to look out from the inside of the booth. It seems like every folio she produces is an attempt at out-cheekying herself, which makes us breathless with anticipation for what it'll be next time.
The quality of the light in Mischan’s debut is almost as dreamy as she is. Her approach to a more ‘natural’ theme is so very genuine and appreciative of the landscape she inhabits, and the dusky, earthy mood of her images is no mean feat for a first-time contributor.
We've always known Christie_M to have quite the healthy glow. And if you're always spending your time the way she did in her last set, you're bound to be bronzed in all the right places. It's good to see that it hasn't worn off since last we saw her, and we hope she'll bring it back soon.
Feb 04, 2010 manko//"toxic"
Manko finally puts to use those poison control community service announcements we were fed as kids. She may look like the world’s sweetest candy, but even a single bite is most certainly lethal. When you’re tempted by the colours and the shapes, there’s only one rule: always read the label.
Feb 04, 2010 apples//"bubblegum"
Being the contrary lass that she is, Apples has chosen to ignore the age-old imperative ‘don’t crack your gum’. In shots so crisply defined you can actually hear the pop of her Bubbilicious, she reminds her viewers that she will never kowtow to ‘the rules’ – she only follows her own.
