ARTISTS STATEMENT

I have always felt comfortable in my body, although I am miles away from the media preferred body image. A great influence to me feeling this way is probably my auntie who was the first woman to open my eyes to gender roles and sexuality and that things like sexual orientation, having children as a woman and body image are things that you have to make your own mind up about and it's ok if they don't fit in with anyone else's standards. I love public nudity. To me it's like shouting out "Look, I am not perfect but who cares and who came up with clothes anyways?!" The secret feminist in me rubs her hands, grins and says "If the boys are allowed topless, so are we!" I've been running around in my bra and shorts since I went to my first festival and over the last 10 years has definitely become a statement. I know some people might think it happens for attention, which really shits me because if it's a hot day, or I'm at a rock show, I don't see why I should be the only one with my sweaty shirt on. I am also lucky to call a pretty amazing, and successful bunch of unpretentious women around the globe my girlfriends and believe me, they drop as fast as I would, for the same reasons. It's about taking control of your body. Not feeling ashamed of it and claiming back ownership over your body and your right to show some skin. To explore a different kind of freedom, without some individuals thinking it's their right to feel you up. Unfortunately the female body is still seen as a commodity to be marketed and sold and owned by everyone but her. When I go half nude I feel that I am taking that concept and putting it in the bin because I do it with the right energy and intention. Hopefully that can be my small but inspiring contribution to some girls to do the same and eventually creating a safe and happy environment for both gals and boys to run around the streets, naked, together, ALL THE TIME! In saying that, the few people that did see me bra drop, gave me awesome responses and acted very respectful. Girls on tour, mission accomplished!

Bands I like: I'm really into local music. Bands like Child and Dead City Ruins, Fuck the Fitzroy Doomscene. Motley Crue and 80's hair metal will always make me take my shirt off!
Books I like: Biographies. Slash, Anthony Kiedis, Motley Crue, the lower and dirtier the better. Human stories are the best.
Films I like: A bit of everything. Coen and Tarantino being around the top.
