ARTISTS STATEMENT
As a performance/video artist I wish to fill my screens with the real instead of the fraudulent. I wish to invite my audiences to be engrossed in the mundane absurdity of the human condition. I feel vulnerability in the reaction to private boundaries is a powerful tool. How do I feel about fame? What is fame without vulnerability? Fame is fickle. I would much prefer to collaborate with creatives til I'm on my deathbed than to strive for a shallow fame. How do I feel about public nudity? When did everyone get so serious?! Take it off! More public nudity! Let's be open and free with each other. When we are stripped away of all our material objects and personality denoting clothes we are left with ourselves. Just ourselves. I think that is a beautiful thing we should embrace as much as possible. ISM: In a world of social media I ask 'what is privacy'? Facebook allows people to control their social image, creating their own public perception. It is a self built social advertisement. Even though you get glimpses into peoples lives that seems so intensely intimate, such as pictures of people sleeping, kissing their lovers, family occasions, I feel the contrary. Social media allows us to filter ourselves and present an edited copy. Perhaps to me the most private moments are those that are presumed ordinary. Moments where people are not consciously posing for a camera, a moment of aloneness, introversion. Moments where we take a moment to relax and be ourselves on default. I love seeing moments where people are inherently true. I love I Shot Myself as it has captured me experiencing a primal pleasure, resulting in a rawness, vulnerability and honest beauty.
