ARTISTS STATEMENT
The body is a locus of politics, a place of struggle - I remember reading Michel Foucault throughout my university degree and being struck by that idea. Since then I also became interested in some feminist performance artists and the way they used the body and how they explored notions surrounding the body. It was through that lens that I sought some inspiration with what I did. The use of food (in my case the berries) could be linked to the notion of the 'abject', defiling my body with food detracts from my body's 'neatness', 'closedness' & 'cleanliness'. I have always had an interest in disturbing notions that we place around things, in this instance I sought to obstruct my own body through the use of food and the black string.
