ARTISTS STATEMENT
I feel I have been censored in my human expression all my life, with clothing, movement and presentation. People around the world and through time have been censored time and time again, especially in the art creative space. I have always been curious about modeling and walking in fashion shows because they are frequently going outside of the box when creating and bringing visions to life. I have had the experience of live modeling for an art class and this was a game changer and so freeing for me. I did not know opportunities like that existed. The human form is so natural and beautiful and I don't understand why it is so censored, why certain bodies are more censored than others. While traveling in Spain, I discovered topless beaches and of course I took this opportunity to free myself. It is such a beautiful thing to see bodies of all ages and shapes free their human form from the clothing rules that are placed upon us. Electronic and rave music has found me, and here I found myself feeling so free on the dance floor and in my clothing choices. Just because of where you are born, your body can feel restricted in how you are supposed to move through that society, yet you could travel to the other side of the world and there's different restrictions and yet newer freedoms of how you can move your body. For example, in afro-cultures whining and twerking and using of the hips is such a powerful thing, yet when looked at in an American context it can be seen as vulgar and lewd. I have found myself leaning into all things that mean freeing my body and my expression. The human form is such beautiful magnificent thing that is meant to move and groove in all directions and ways. It?s natural. It is very important to me now to express myself freely in all things I am pursuing in life, breaking through barriers, confines and imaginary restrictions.
