Comment paging is misconceived

Paging through the comments is taking an age and it seems to me that the reason is all the thumbnails are re-sent each time you select another page.
Why break the comments into pages at all?
One page of comments is about 1.5KB. One thumbnail is about the same size.
The load on your site from people paging through the comments is many times greater than if you just let the comments frame grow naturally and indefinately. And, it's a darn site more irritating.

Good point, thanks for pointing it out, we'll look into it.  It's a problem inherited from the old version.
