| ARTISTS STATEMENT |
Having never done anything like this before, I pretended to be a showgirl sending her boyfriend, who had long since sailed away to war, photos of herself to boost his morale. She is a vain creature, represented by the two mirrors in the shoot, and feels trapped, which I tried to represent by the confined space. The small area of the shoot shows how she feels trapped by her relationship and how she is restricted to her home, unable to travel the world like her partner. I would have found it difficult to shoot, had I not pretended to be someone else, as I am naturally shy. Nudity, in my opinion, can be justified in photos for the sake of art. A naked body can be a beautiful thing, but it depends upon the purpose and cause.
